For those of you in SoCal near sea level do you switch to winters in winter? The temperature only gets below 40 a few days out of the year like today and I haven't had issues with my summers though the I drive warned it was 37. I did add some air as the tire pressure was getting low. What about you guys? Also daytime temps in the 50-70 range are not good for winters.

I used to live in Chicago. I always switch to winter tires but I would sometimes have to drive in subzero temps on my summers before getting around to swapping.
In the winter, as long as it doesn't snow and it stays above 20 degF or so, you don't have to even think about winter tires or even all-seasons. You DO lose traction more easily so you do have to drive a little more carefully, but you should learn to sense when your car is about to lose traction. There is a small risk of hitting an ice patch so you have to be careful going over bridges. In California, the temperatures might dip below 32 degF occasionally, but I've never hit a patch of ice. So you never have to buy winter tires unless you're planning on going up a mountain. |

Recently drove through the grapevine when it was snowing and 31 outside. Had absolutely no traction issues with my Michelin ps4’s. They’re also excellent in the rain. Bridgestone s001 or s01 (can’t remember) were also very good when I had them on my old 335. I don’t think anyone in CA runs snow tires unless they live in areas such as Mt. High, Mammoth, Big Bear, etc.
