*** OFFICIAL bootmod3 de-cat with OBD readiness THREAD***

Area 74 only works for PWG N55. I tried it on my EWG and it didn't work. I have big daddy's cat sim /spacer and it worked for a couple months. Doesn't work anymore. For my next inspection, either getting AA high flow cated DP or buy another big daddy's cat sim. Such a pita.

Did you leave the sim and spacer installed? You are not supposed to run those long term, only briefly to pass and then remove asap.

I bought the car new in 2015 and installed catless dp within the the 1st year with AA piggy back and big daddy's cat sim. Left cat sim in for a couple years not knowing it shouldn't be run long term. Car ran great though. For first 2 years, I would get a CEL intermittently on long road trips but it would clear on its own after a week of driving. But started to get CEL more regularly into 2 year. Then upgraded to AA Stage 2+ FBO flash tune. Car ran great for a while, but had some misfires. I removed the cat sim ... still some misfires. Then went through different spark plugs, new coils then upgraded ignition coils and upgraded my clutch. Still had occasional misfires. No way to log with AA so I changed to BM3 about 1 year ago using their stage 2+ OTS map and car has never run better. Not sure what effect the long term use of cat sim played in all this for the first 3 years but I'm at 80,000 miles now and car is running better than ever.

Interesting. I'm not exactly sure the long term effects of running with the sim or spacer either. I just know that not too long ago, someone reached out to MHD about using a O2 spacer/mini cat and cat sim on the secondary O2 and they said not to run any of those things long term because the secondary O2 is used for more than just cat monitoring and it can affect the engine. Not sure what thread that was in.

That's why you dont run these long term, even on secondary O2.

Just a quick update. I passed inspection today with a VRSF catless DP and modified stock tune. No spacers, CATSim or anything like that. Just modified stock tune. PM me for details.

You think this will for for all F30 models or just N55?

I'm not sure. The available tables are different so it's hard to say.

How do you like the sound of Fabspeeds HF DP? big difference from your previous catless setup? I currently run a vrsf HF DP and knew it wouldn't pass emissions but I was to impatient and cheap to buy Fabspeeds HF DP and I wanted to flash to stg2+ asap at the time.

Now my emissions are due in June so looks like I will be buying Fabspeed after all lol (basically wasted $400+ because I was impatient) but im curious how Fabspeed sounds and more importantly did you pass? Ct has similar emissions tests as PA I believe.

FWIW you don't need to get the Fabspeed DP. You just need to make some tweaks to your tune to pass.

Fabspeed catted should sound very similar to any other catted including VRSF. As compared to a catless it will be marginally quieter and less raspy.

You should have made your purchased over the last week or so as most things were on sale. You could have also gotten AA, which was at least 15% off, so around $850. Last year i paid around $1100 for my fabspeed during BF sales. I can confirm that fabspeed will get emissions monitor for the cat into ready state. I would note however that its technically not EPA approved so you can still fail visual. AA on the otherhand should be a guaranteed pass in any state except California.

Not to steer this thread off topic but I have a question. Car is currently stage 2 91 tune with catless DP and all the other bolt on. Getting ready to sell the car and need to smog it.

I obviously have to change the the DP back to the OEM, but what tune do I need to change to? Stage 1 or back to stock?

I read that the car needs to go through a monitor readiness but how many miles of different driving does that take?

You don't need to change the tune to pass. The tune doesn't effect the obd2 readiness.

The number of drive cycles needed to complete all monitors to ready depends on the vehicle and iff you can truly do a drive cycle in a single drive or not based on traffic. Older o2 sensor may take a longer time to heat up etc. For me the one that takes the longest, usually a day or 2 of regular driving, is the evap monitor.
