403m wheel refurb, which finish??
It looks like I’m going to have to get my 403m wheels refurbished following damage caused by a careless tyre fitter.
I really like the diamond cut finish of the standard wheels, but am conscious of how delicate they are. I was pretty chuffed that after 6 years I had managed to keep them pretty much unmarked, until the recent tyre change, fair to say gutted is an understatement! I think powder coat will be the way to go & I want to try to go for something which is very similar to the colour they are now. The car is mineral grey so not looking to go black on the wheels… What have other folk done? Any pics especially against mineral grey to help me make my mind up?? Cheers |

I think against mineral grey you should just go for silver tbh.
From anything further than a few metres away they look the same as diamond cut anyway.

I had mine redone, powder coated in Ferric Grey II and recut. They look, well as you'd imagine, good as new. I've not put them back on the car yet as will be ceramic coating them and I may actually leave them off over winter. On mineral grey, which I've got, I don't think you can do better than the OEM colour combo/finish, it sets the car off perfectly.

The plan on mine is to get the summer ones re-cut when they eventually need done but in advance of that take the worst of the 8 wheels and get them done in shadow chrome ala E39 M5 for the winter.

We just had the wheels on my wife’s Mineral Grey F30 re-furbished.
I went for diamond cut as I prefer the look of it (despite the longevity with this type of finish). Also, when we purchased ours as an approved used car the wheels had actually been refurbished but powder coated silver as opposed to the factory style diamond cut finish. So I wanted to get back to the original style and see how we get on. |

The place I used for my wheel refurb was the one the dealer uses. In fact they arrange for and paid for 2 of the wheels as I was fed up with DC corrosion. I asked for shadow chrome and the paint guys said it was a generic name and could be any mix. Anyway, that’s how I ended up with that colour and IMHO it’s the nuts. Hides the brake dust well too - bonus. |
