The press are irresponsible and people are sheep who love a good panic, although in the past eighteen months I've felt more and more that this is an insult to the sheep!

Meat shortage. It's real.

We've just had notification that Ocado couldn't supply the two meat pies that we'd ordered, and also doesn't have a substitute available.

Not sure how we're going to survive without pies.

It'll be having the gas to cook it on that will be the issue, just look at this graph of gas storage capacity compared to our peers, we have 12 days worth of storage it's a joke.

We're so piss poor as a country when it comes to being prepared, we just seem to wing it all the time..

We are also the experts on making the normal become bleeding expensive. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to find that we spend the same on gas storage hardware as the countries nearer the top of the list.

Wait until it snows and the 8 snowploughs in the country don't come out because we haven't fuelled them/the drivers have left for Ocado/a.n.other shit excuse.

Read an article this evening which described BJ as our "just-in-time prime minister", which made me smile - although in truth, it flatters the man..

In fairness though a lot of those countries are much bigger. Would be intersting to see something similar showing storage vs use….

I don’t doubt we’ll be crap but just for arguments sake.

Not sure what the physical size of country has to with usage, but in terms of population we have a larger population than all those countries barring Germany whose population is 20% larger yet they have nearly 20 times the storage.

Well don't worry, this was asked about in the hearing today.

Quote:
SNP's Alan Brown asks if it was "short-sighted" not to have a greater amount of gas in storage.

Kwarteng replies that the issue of storage is "a red herring" and not "relevant" arguing that it doesn't affect the global prices of gas.
So there you go. Clearly storing gas whilst it's cheap and in plentiful supply would not help to address supply shortages, or mitigate high prices today.

Agreed it would be utterly bonkers to buy gas and store it whilst it was cheap and plentiful in the summer to use in the winter Kwarteng is a genius.

So let me see how this works...

Energy companies offer cheap rates to win custom to make profit
Energy companies mess up and end up paying more than they can sell for
Energy companies go into admin to avoid liability - but keep profits made in the good times....

Maybe competition was not so good for the customer, after all....

I'm paying £2400 as of Oct 1st for both on the standard variable price cap which could go towards £3000 come April next year, I'm convinced I'm heating the entire street.

It's bonkers and economies will need to be made.

also on a standard capped price as everytime I have moved in the past it has then gone up on the new tariff.....

£260 a month but I blame that on being behind as EON apparently dont read meters anymore.... and living with youngsters who dont know how to turn anything off!!!

Is that total payment for the year up to Oct? Is that just for natural gas to heat the house, water, cook, etc? Just curious how it compares to our energy usage per month or per year. I realize different areas of the country and world have different climates and thus different needs for heat or ac, but was just curious.

Gas and Elec. Mine is similar for the year if you take out the catch up element. We rarely have AC but we generally have heating!

That's does seem high. We've a newish build house like yourself, and we are £150 pm for electric and gas over the year.

The new house has oil fired heating… no idea whether that's going to be better or worse!
