I feel this thread has gone off in the weeds;

I already own a large 3 row SUV which is my wife's daily driver
I have 3 kids with a 4th on the way.
My current daily driver cannot fit 4 kids (no, Im not putting my 5 year old in the front seat)
I want to get a new daily driver which is somewhat fun/quick that can fit 4 small kids.
My budget is around $40k
Im not trying to break any nurburgring records. I just want something that is on the quicker/more fun side of a family hauler.
I dont haul the family often and commute daily by myself. I just need something that can fit 4 kids if/when I need to.
I've narrowed my search to something like a 2017 X5 msport with a third row or an E400 wagon with a third row.

Now I understand; sounds like you've got a couple good prospective cars in mind.
Good luck on shopping! /Bill

I’ll post one more then I’ll try to stop.

This is a 2015 that has just under 39k miles. It is literally in your backyard. And it is fully loaded. It looks like it has brand new tires. https://www.miramarcarcenter.com/pre...-BMW-X5/679544

I think you will be happy with the X5, the 3rd row is tight but works great for kids when its needed. Just make sure you get the upgraded sports seats

I will second that, we did a lot of car shopping for my MIL and the cx9 she bought drives like a BMW. If I had to get an SUV that’s what I’d get.

Still looking. You sent some great options, thanks ! Im leaning towards a later model X5 (2017 or newer). Ive see some with decent mileage in the low $40s.

This one looks very nice.

Yeah, I would have missed some of those, because I limited the mileage to 40k. Just curious - do you care if it’s sDrive vs xDrive? There are lots of sDrives in Cali.

Here are a couple of websites where you can decode the VIN to determine exactly how a Bimmer is equipped. www.bimmer.work and www.mdecoder.com

Surely has to be a 4 series Gran Coupe, I have just picked up the 440i version and had it mapped to 420BHP it is comfortable, lots of room for the kids and has the power for when I am alone.

So much this. I traded in my 2013 Flex Ecoboost for my current 2017 340i. I loved that thing. Huge brakes from the police interceptor, lots of power, wide tires, low to the ground, and tons of room.

How would he fit 6 people in that? Him, his wife, AND 4 kids.

Any Lexus/Toyota SUV with the fantastic, venerable 2uz-fe V8, best V8 ever made. Many of them have a third row and are so much more fun to own than any modern X BMW. Plus you will have purchase and maintenance money for a fun, zippy Z3 for your own personal enjoyment!
