2.5 miles is a 15 min cycle ride, absolute tops. Not worth picking the car keys up for and you won't even need a shower at the other end

I was going to say my commute is 5 miles, I'd cycle it but it would take twice as long to sort out at each end than it would to actually cycle it!

It's not the DPF to worry about IMO - they sorted those problems a while back. The problem will be carbon build-up in the EGR and intake and the wrong sort of driving will result is needing to get the system cleaned out earlier than planned.

thanks all for your replies.....

Good evening, sorry for late reply,
thanks for all of your views on this matter, my wife loves her 330i but at 97k and having it 7 years or so its time for a change, going down in engine size is not desirable as she is a bit of speed queen and wants an upgrade not a downsize in engine, i have a remapped 335d tourer which she loves to drive hence the question on this thread, majority here certainly favour the petrol option so i guess it will be a 335i,340i or a 435i with a decent set of winter tyres..... as already said its a shame the larger petrol engines don't have X drive, my next challenge is finding the right car to the wife's specifications lol, thanks all Steve.

Test drive a B48 320i/420i....it's better than the bad press it gets. 0-60 7.2s, 270 Nm torque in auto or 290 Nm in manual. Good fuel economy (38.8 mpg over 32,000 miles) It's effectively the same engine as the 330i with less hp.

They do them in xdrive, but I have s drive and a winter wheel set.

I love mine and would buy the same engine again.

Agree ...2.5 miles is cycling commute distance and I would only drive if the weather was shite.
Over 3 miles I would drive personally because time is precious and the commute makes the working day longer.

I do 8miles a day and have a long run at the weekends, no issues

I read the 2019 DPF are being introduced for petrol also. So i guess they are here to stay.
