No, it defines what it does on a big power track.

The 1M laps smaller/tighter tracks quicker than the M3. But the M3 laps the Nurburgring quicker than the 1M.

Because one of the mainreasons was Horst didn't have the guts to really go flat out because of it's wobbling shorter wheelbase layout of the 1M. You ought to know that.

I'll tell you this: A 1M in good hands stock does < 8:05(M3 laptime) at the NS. For sure.

Back ontopic. Talking about F30's on Laguna Saca. I'll pass.

Just don't take it too serously. If you think you know something about M/cars & laptimes, there are others who also know a bit about that and do trackdays etc etc. Think about it.

As I already stated, I'd better wait for the EU carmags to give their views on the whole F30 line up.

Cheers
Robin

Other than the M cars, I never thought of BMWs as being super fast cars. They were always about balance and driving dynamics. The 335 changed that with the turbos adding torque that 330, 325, etc never had but it also added weight. With the N20 it seems the balance is back, but it still retains the torque of the turbos. As I mentioned earlier, BMW was using 4 cylinders back in the days when they were the true "Ultimate Driving Machine" so it seems to me that some people's perceptions are a little skewed.

All BMW dealerships should have their 3 F30 test cars by now, why don't you go and see for yourself? I've had two straight-six powered Bimmers in a row and I wouldn't trade their sound and smoothness for the world, but I spent quite a bit of time in the F30 328i and the reviewers aren't kidding. It's a revelation, especially compared to the E90 328i I used to own. The turn in is unbelievable for an entry level 3 series.

Problems with licenses whatever kept the demo cars from being used at my dealership. Maybe tomorrow, or whenever my 335i arrives(next week I guess/hope).

Surely the 328 will turn in very well. (In my country it's not an entry level 3 series btw. starting from 42k EUROS so a loaded one would go for 50 to 60k euros....)

You want crisp turn in?: A E87 1 series 120d or 130i. Amazing.

All of this seems like a plan by bmw to position the 335 in a performance category that makes it almost irrelevant/redundant in comparison to the 328.. doing this would allow them to release the 340i performance version to sit in between the 328 and M3 and get rid of the 335 in the near future.

I see the 340i (or whatever they'll call it) as being the new 335. That would be great for our 6cyl fans on here. ..minus the obligatory price hike of course.

What this means is that when they upgrade the I6 they are really going to make it count.

The N20 makes 120hp/L today, so it is a good bet they can build a N55 (or successor) with 120hp/L, for 360hp. In fact, we already know that the future generation of BMW engines will be capable of up to 133hp/L, meaning there will almost surely be a 400hp I6 at some point in the next 2 to 5 years (my estimate). Whether we have to wait for that engine to get a higher powered I6, or if we'll instead see an interrim bump to the N55 (which is already making 320hp in *40i models) remains to be seen.

I've has similar thoughts. I could definitely see an ///M340i eventually replacing the 335i model rather than sitting above it. Will it happen this generation? I kind of doubt it. I think they'll probably offer both (assuming that the ///M340i does materialize, as is speculated). But for a future generation, who knows.

I'm sick of reading snotty comments from people who try to justify their 335i choice. Both models look like good cars. Some will like and prefer the 328i more, while others will like and prefer the 335i more. Both cars have their positives and negatives.

Right on the money. Anyone that doesn't think the 335i will be replaced within the next 2 years needs to at the BMW history, the writing is on the wall.

As for the N20, that wont change for awhile but I wonder if they will change the 328 designator?

BMW needs to make the 335i with a 3.5 biturbo inline 6 mill, that should be good for at least 385hp.

LOL I will take all the options, but I may just wait for a sweet deal on a CPO car just a year or so down the road.

Just wondered if "GE" is the new abbreviation for Germany. I seem to recall it's always been "DE."

+1

the same few people that ordered 335i's are constantly in the 328i threads, defending their choices. that insecurity is only going to get worse when the 2012 335i models are rendered obsolete with the power increase coming in 2013 or 14

Saw a new 328 at the dealer on monday, sharp looking car. Was offered a test drive but had to decline as was busy at the time. Will make sure to drive the M there and try to get a feel for it back 2 back. Really liking this new 3 series (especially the interior) but would never buy a first model year. Can't wait to see the M they produce out of these genetics.
