First Defect

Two years in, I have now had the first issue requiring repair. My passenger seat will not power forward or rearward. The switch has no effect for fore/aft, but up/down and recline still work. Has anyone experienced this and learned if this is a switch issue/replacement, or is this a larger problem, such as having to dig out the seat motor?

Did you eat a lot over the holidays?

Sorry, no help other than since the rest of the power seat functions work, I doubt its a fuse or a connector having come apart (though wires could have been dislodged). You can check voltage at the motor while you operate the switch.

It's the passenger seat, so I will pass your question along to my beloved!

I can hear the solenoid/relay clicking when I activate the switch. The motor just doesn't activate. I have a dealer appointment for Friday. He said it's not a common problem, so not sure of the downtime...parts ordering, etc.

Yes and the dealer will repair. Was wondering if others have had this happen and what the fix entailed and possible downtime for low frequency usage parts.

In that case you and your car ought to be fine. :-)

The electric motor might be the root cause. This is a common part.

you are lucky as it failed under warranty. My seat pump that adjusts the width of the seat failed and it would have cost me dear to replace if it wasn't under warranty.

Did someone vacuum under the seat lately. Might of disconnected a wire.

I've been looking under there with a flashlight. Everything look intact. If I put my fingertips on the yellow module, I can feel the solenoid clicking when the fore/aft switch is operated....just nothing happens with the motor (or, is it Motaur? Sorry....TV ad joke!). Tracks look clean, although seat is full rear, so can't see in track behind it. With rear legroom like our cars have, this was a good position in which to fail.....if it had to.

This is where I was at with using a meter to see if the motor was getting power.

Glad to hear that’s it’s under warranty.

After not working for a week, the power fore/aft mysteriously started working again today. I've been trying it daily since it first failed. Called the dealer and he said to bring it in anyway for its appointment, happens to be tomorrow morning, to see if any fault codes were stored. All quite odd! More to come...

Same exact thing with mine. Passenger seat stopped moving. Crap. Out of warranty. Checked connections. A week later it just started working again. I like that in a vehicle.

Intermittent faults like this indicate a loose connection.

That makes sense, but the operation went from faulty to operational with a stationary vehicle. With no motion in a parked car, I would wonder how it was reestablished. I have the appointment in an hour and a half...they're going to check for fault codes before deciding to keep the car or send me on my way until it fails again. At least they said they have the loaner ready to go, if needed!

YOU WIN!

You get the Spot-On Armchair Diagnosis Award today! Turns out the full rear position movement somehow snagged some wiring, not pulling it completely out, but loosening the connection. Wiring harness was "repositioned/repaired" and new bolts installed when seat was reinstalled in the vehicle.

If this happens to anyone else after a full rear travel, you have the leading suspect identified!
