It was about $4000 Canadian (CAD) in parts: pistons, rods, bearings, all the gaskets and liquids. And about $2000 CAD for labour. I also did some headwork i.e. porting, polishing. That was also about $2000 in labour.

I haven't looked into changing the turbo setup yet. I'm not going for super high HP, but something more focused for the track. If it could manage around 450 whp with the responsiveness of the PS2, I'd be very happy. I've heard that the PS2 is good for around 2.5bar, I'll see how long it holds up around 2bar.

Awesome work, really excited to see where this ends up!

Great work! Really cool to see someone really pushing the platform. Excited to see how it works out for you. Any plans on going to the drag strip? I'm sure that's not what you had in mind for this build, but it'd be cool to see what you would run. I suspect you would be deep into the 12's, maybe even into the 11's @ 110mph+. Either way awesome stuff!

Some more photos:

Some pretty cool pictures of the cam assembly and the porting and polishing on the cylinder head.

And you could see how the rods failed. All the rods had some degree of warping (you could see the slight "S" shape). The one that failed was warped enough that it started scoring the cylinder wall and the piston finally gave out.

Wow, it takes a ton of torque to warp a connecting rod like that. Thanks for the pictures!

Picked up the car, she's running good. I'm going to drive it for about 500km to break it in. Then we'll throw it on a dyno for a re-tune and to turn up the boost , should have some dyno charts in 2 weeks

Hell yah man, looking forward to see what she does!

Not sure if it was mentioned before, but what setup were you running when you bent a rod?

I was running 28 psi on a Pure Stage 2 Turbo with 50/50 methanol. I was running it at 28 psi for about 2-3 months before the ringland gave out.

Damn that's not that bad actually. I'm surprised it even lasted that long at 28psi. I suspect you won't have that problem anymore though

thanks for providing the pricing. that's too much money for me. that's probably the difference between selling my car and picking up a 340i

If you're after any help at all, i just posted my build log on building this engine here in my 220i https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...6#post24135816
Good to see im not the only one to be posting a built n20 thread, i ended up sleeving the cylinders, and semi closing the deck, i also went with 10x 11mm ARP2000 headstuds from the N55. Awesome to see you had the head ported, thats not something i thought was necessary but it's definitely not off the cards, i may look into it. Well done man interested to see power results!

So far I've done 2800kms on the rebuild and damn! This engine takes some boost now!

Thanks! I read up on your build also, well done! I particularly liked the rods you inserted to semi close the block.

I've been driving the car for about the same time now. I recently got it retuned but I'm still working out some minor issues (with the tune because of the head porting). We're currently looking into it but I think we have to readjust the valve lift tables (Valvetronic), I'm getting throttle closure and hesitation during normal driving above 3000 rpm.

After I have the tune finalized, I'll put it back on the dyno to see final numbers with the Pure Stage 2.

Can't wait to see how she turns out when it's all buttoned up and to see some dyno numbers Thanks for sharing the build.

Awesome, if head porting is worth it, ill get it done! Keen to see the numbers, who are you getting to tune it? Local BM3 tuner or a remote BM3 tuner? Im still waiting on Halim from HCP to tune, i requested months ago, still waiting... But hopefully something soon.

Also keen to know what boost numbers you're hitting, with associated fuel?

Looking forward to more updates!

I'm not running Bootmod3. I'm working on a custom tune with Eurocharged Canada. Since it's a custom tune, it doesn't really matter if it's HCP, PTF or another tuner, the result will be the same (if they're competent).

I'll be getting it tuned on our pump gas, 94 oct (10% ethanol) with a 50/50 mix for methanol injection (Single CM 7 nozzle for now). To hit 400 awhp I think the PS2 will have to run 35 psi but the turbo wasn't made for that kind boost, they say it's rated for 31 psi. We'll see how it performs after this tune is dialled in. Custom turbo setup?.. G25, EFR ect.. lol
