Loads of snow in West Mids last winter. Had to plough through it on loads of journeys and work in Malvern (as in Malvern Hills!)

Best to go with what BMW recommend and that's a 225 square set up, I've run Winters like this for about 6 years and never had any problems, rear wheel drive only

I'd rather put a 235 on a 8.5j regardless of what BMW recommend, 225 will fit fine but it's a bit stretched.

What do your insurance companies say about a square set up?
Mine used to flip out when they found out the speed rating wasn't as high as summer tyres even with standard sizes. I can only imagine what they'd do with non stock size and speed ratings...

Car spec on OEM is fine with my insurer, LV. No need to even inform them of a swap. The car is always OEM spec.

Many option available. Would not look for 19" or 18" even if you can find them. check fitting for something like 17" and get some steel wheels and go winter Nokian's tyres for best bad weather performance or some Conti for a better mix.

You can't fit 17" on cars with M sport blue calipers, 18" is the min.

However as Hooded says above, 235 is the perfect fit for 8 or 8.5J wheels whilst 225 would be acceptable but noted as small for 8.5J. If anyone turned snotty there is a solid industry recommendation for saying 235 is the size for either 8 or 8.5.

Hi all
I took a few pics of my winter wheels with the square 225 set-up for a previous thread - here it is https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1329441&page=2 The wheels are 8/8.5 staggered, and the square 225 set-up honestly looks grand to me. I've run that for the past 2 winters, and had absolutely no issues at all. Our cars were the only two cars to make it out of our park, as it's on a fairly big hill. Any questions, fire away. Nice one Cookies.
Tyres are ordered just waiting on delivery. The wheels could do with a refurb but not sure there is much point with them being winter wheels... it will just look like a 1 month old car has kerbed wheels ha ha |

Bumping this thread as I require some help. Require winter tyres to drive to Germany from the UK during winter time.
Tried all the major websites and still struggling to find right size tyres online. Also require tyre hotel services to store my summer tyres. Any help appreciated!! Thanks all. Front: 225/40/19 Rear: 255/35/19 |
