F80 M3 controls arms install questions

Hey yall:

I am definitely considering this, well correction, considering this depending on cost as my budget as always is super constrainted.

F80

What do you guys think of this? Anyone done the same?

Outstanding questions I have at this point.
1. arm part numbers
right - 31122284530 - $208
left - 31122284529 $208
2. headlight control rod part number -
Whole kit including arms and control rod - $386
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...31122284529kt/
3. proper torque - ???

Worth it?

It should be noted that you also really need the tension struts as well as the control arms. With just the control arms the wheel moves a long way forward in the arch as you can see in the video. F80 tension struts fix that.

I appreciate the info.. interesting those are needed too? Wonder if there is real benefit from doing this?

I'm a fan of bkkeys so seeing this sucks. Gotta be honest though, I did chuckle at the vid a little bit, in a sympathetic, nervous laugh kinda way. He seems in fairly good spirits and definitely toftt!

Was going to do it for my car a while ago but realized it wouldn't work on xDrive. I'd do it.

It turns out he himself had an xDrive car and attempted this. Now we all know exactly why you cannot do this on an xDrive car. I watched the video in the top post before and assumed he had RWD, guess not.

For those with sDrive, this mod was very worth it. They improve all elements of steering and give much more grip on the front end through all corner phases. I did not do tension struts. The TS do not correct the wheel placement in the well (I later swapped to F80 TS and they mildly corrected placement, pushing the wheel further back and outward), the F80 TS are the same length as the F30 ones. The forward placement is not a problem clearance wise even with my car lowered and running wider tires/wheels. The F80 TS would be worth it for the bushings, but are not required.

Oh damn... wish I could've told him that before he replaced it. In my tuning sheet i put this in back in 2016:

X BMW F8x lower control arms (spacers needed?) $169, 169, 169, 169 (31122284529, 31122284530, 31122284531, 31122284532) - won't fit xdrive suspension

As this adds negative camber, won’t the alignment shop attempt to correct that when aligning to factory specs?

Depends on the distance to alignment shop.

The video has a solid walkthrough of the arms themselves, and the link to the kit has the arms AND the headlight arm you will need.

OMFG

I can only imagine the horror on this..

So still (sorta) thinking about this NON X DRIVE.. but what are the other parts folks mention? Last thing I want, or can afford to do, is break things trying for a little better handling.

I don't live within 10 miles of one so I just bit the bullet and gave it to my Indy shop. The toe is massively thrown off and a good toe setting is very close to the ends of adjustment, that's what my shop told me at least. Not every alignment shop wants to do that kind of work, especially if you have coilovers and other mods.

Here is my coilovers only alignment:

And here is my post install and post alignment specs:

I spoke with someone who did this mod and ended up reverting it.

The F30 felt unstable with crosswinds on a highway to where he felt unsafe driving it.

Your talking about swapping the F80 LCA's onto an F30, right?

Do you know what other suspension setup he had?

Appreciate the insight as this is/was on my to do list to compliment my B8 / ACS set up.

Surprised a more aggressive LCA can completely ruin the way a car feels at highway speed to the point you would remove them.

Interested in other opinions from people with experience.

Have had nothing like that experience nor read any other post from the hundreds I have on the topic claiming that, I must have missed that one.

Highway stability and tracking improved after the upgrade. I did a 1000 mile road trip a few months after having them installed and the increased caster improves centering force which keeps it tracking more true with less input.

Take a look at the threads on 2addicts on the topic, there are tons more people there who do this mod. The F22 and F30 share the exact same suspension architecture and geometry. Here's one of many, but a search for "F80 LCA" will get a lot of hits.
