NBT NEXT Maps have not been released by the manufacturer to BMW yet, so even the factory does not have them. The manufacturer is scheduled to release them in December.

My MY10 (early production) came with 2009 maps and was upgraded to 2010 maps when I brought in for first service. No charge. I'm hoping its same for MY14 because I also have July build.
Yea, that's why I ESPECIALLY don't want to purchase them. I'd be pissed if I paid any money for updated maps and my house still wasn't on there.

My car came new with 2011 Maps on it, and my home street wasn't included, and when I updated to 2012 Maps, it still wasn't included, which was disappointing. However, the update still added many other new streets and POI's, so to me it was still a worthwhile update. I wan't updating the maps after all just to get my home address. Thankfully it was finally added in the 2013 Map Release.

The 2014 release seems to show more street names for upcoming turns when a Route is entered, which is a nice improvement.

Thx for sharing. The good news is I live in an urban area and pretty much never have an issue with the Nav not knowing what street its on. Well, for the VERY few times I've used Nav for guidance.

+1 on showing more street names. My car originally came with 2012-1 and on the entire screen, there might have been one or two street names show. They were almost never a major street, just some random minor street in the middle of nowhere.

The 2014-1 maps fixed that; now it always shows the major streets and the maps just seem to be more readable at a glance than it did before.

Upgrading to the 2014-1 map was a major improvement for me.

Thanks again Shawn for making this available.

I am a little worried to do the upgrade - is there a way to back up the old system? or let say - is there a way to roll back to the previous version?

will the upgrade affect any other car systems? like all those monitoring systems etc.

The European version is a 3 each 8 GB USB version.
what is the exact size of the distribution? 3*8GB, or ~16GB altogether? is there a youtube video for that? has someone upgraded the European version, any big improvements?

I am not sure why you are worried about the upgrade. This is an BMW OEM Map, OEM FSC Code, and OEM Process for Map update. It is exactly what your dealer will do to update your map.

In any event, when you install the new Map, it installs to a seperate space on the hard Drive, and only when it install 100% complete, without any errors, does the system reboot and switch over to the new map. It has zero impact on any other system.

The distribution is packaged in a 16.8 GB 23 part .RAR archive that will extract into the 3 USB / DVD folders, which each run about 7.5 Gb in size.

Hi Shawn,

many thanks again for the clarifications. Does BMW maintain a centralized database for service requests or similar? let's imagine the local dealer who is providing the maintenance will notice the Navi upgrade and will reasonably question how did I get that - will I be able to pretend I did that at another dealer while being abroad for instance, or that I ordered it online?

for instance software tweaks(I've got the token/patch from Akiss btw) are not visible immediately, so this can go unnoticed, but not navi.

I think it should not affect any warranty agreements, especially if it is possible to roll back to the previous version, right?

There is no database to determine how you updated. Even if there was such a thing, I can't image any scenario where a service technician digs deep into the Navigation => Options => Version screen to determine what map version you have (no way for accidental discovery), and then goes to a computer database to bump that up against what you may have ordered, and then in the event he can't find a match, interrogates you as to the source of your map update. This is simply implausible. It is an OEM Map, OEM FSC Code, and OEM installation, and updating ones own CIC has been done hundreds of thousands, if not millions of times since the CIC was introduced in 2008. It is no concern for the dealer, nor any basis for warranty concern.

The maps are probably good, and you can download the maps from Pirate Bay or a dozen other sites. As for FSC Codes from there, it's caveat emptor. I have heard from many that were ripped of with bad codes.

2014 North American map update

Just wanted to say thanks. The update worked fine, I did get some improvements to some areas. I was very pleased with the provider's care and support. A trustworthy person, and was genuinely concerned that I received and had everything in order to apply the new map. Even took the time to explain to me about lifetime codes, which basically don't really exist. Just hoping for a discount for future updates for returning users

Either way very happy with the update and full support. Just wanted to emphasize again, a very trustworthy and honest provider. I plan on referring more people.

Glad to hear it. As I wrote, many people are getting ripped off on codes, or get a code only and no map links or only torrent links, and no support for creating USB's / DVD's and installing. This guy is legitimate, and goes out of his way to help anyone make the update, start to finish.

For the NBT 2014 NEXT Maps, can these be loaded via DVD as well? I'm going to upgrade my CIC unit to NBT as soon as the parts come in and I don't think I'll be able to get the USB port in the arm rest working right away since I need to order a different wire.

I doubt it...64 GB Thumb Drive I think will be needed.
