Low oil level protection?!

Hi

It has been 3500 miles since oil change so I was starting to wonder why I had not been asked to refill a quart (I drive the engine hard). I then see this message and get a bit scared... I am 90% sure my engine is low minimum 1 quart at this time so if the engine cannot measure the oil level how does it protect against dangerously low levels? I see an error code that could be related to this but no CEL has popped up! A pretty vital sensor that I'd like to know about

Oh btw - I saw the error code some time ago and already changed the oil temp sensor (13627580635) but code remain.

Oh for sure Ill have it checked.

I just wonder if BMW would allow a potential catastrophic engine failure without warning... If that sensor is really that important wouldn't we get a CEL at least?

The oil temperature and oil level sensors are two different parts.

I know that. I changed the TEMP sensor which did not correct the error code saying temp sensor error and I cannot measure oil level, ergo I think the description is incorrect. I think I have a faulty oil level sensor.

How do you know the temperature sensor is faulty? It could be the wiring to the sensor or another electrical malfunction.

The code says I have a faulty temp sensor ....and yes it could be the wiring but how often is it?
