Hi All,

I know the general consensus is non-RFT - which I agree but am not the only driver. So it RFT it is.

S001s have been mediocre from the beginning.

Options are PZeros, ContiSport Contact 5/5P.

Would appreciate any experiences...

Pzero: Good overall tyre which tends to wear evenly, but punctures will cost you a tyre as Pirelli officially states they are not repairable.

Sport Contact 5: (5p not available as a BMW * designated runflat). Less harsh than the S001 but wears quicker. Rears seem to wear weirdly in the centre. Also not repairable in the event of a puncture according to Continental.

Goodyear F1 Assymetric 2: I find these have good grip but vague steering. You have to have faith that the tyres will take you where you point the wheels. Prone to damage from severe potholes (internal tears causing visible humps in the sidewall).

If i had to pick, I'd probably choose either the Pzero or Eagle.

What didn't you like about the S001? Wet grip? Noise? Not much feedback?

I found S001 to noisy, went for Goodyear F1 Assymetric 2

Good feedback. My main gripe with the S001 was traction - especially in the wet throughout the tyres lifetime. On previous cars I have had MPSS/PS2/PS3 and never encountered this. Admittedly last car had a lot less torque but my F31 is only a 328i.

I'm at 30k KMs and the rears look well gone but still have a few mm to the wear bars. So not bad really.

Ive also just hit 31k and have about 4-5mm left on the rears.

Leaning to the Pzero - Does anyone know if the BMW specific model really makes a difference? For my non-tracked baby seat equipped f31 328i ?

We have the factory P zero's on our car, only approx 2000kms and I don't find them particularly sticky.

They look really good though. I would think for street driving they would all be much of a muchness?

I think the ride is surprisingly good though for RFT. Much better than the old 335 E91 msport with non-RFTs.

I would have thought the same but my experience with the S001 with low speed wet traction is terrible. Maybe I have higher expectations than I should. I did come from MPSS etc.

Otherwise they are fine.

On my E92 335 with S001, traction light always flashed when I accelerated after a turn in the wet, when I switched to PSS this didn’t happen anymore. However I would say S001 is still ok unless my right foot was very heavy in the wet, otherwise the traction is acceptable.

I have p-zeros with the tire insurance. I had a tire replaced for free when I got a bulge from a pothole.

MOE vs BMW *: the difference lies with the speed and range in runflat operation. MOE is rated to a lower speed and lower range. For PZero, i have not noticed any physical difference but S001 has wider grooves, thicker rim guard sidewall but is overall narrower in MOE flavour.

Michelin Primacy 3 ZP factory fitted to the G30 5 series meets both MOE and BMW *. It is the first tyre I have seen that is approved for both, making it easier for tyre shops to cater for both markets.

i put a set of P zero's on my 328 a few weeks back. Not cheap, was over $1600 for the set.

A bit less noisy than the OEM Bridgestones, but now it has a a very small though annoying steering wheel shake at around 80kph. Have had wheels balanced 3 times and still has the shake.

They do have a lip on the sidewall that offers some protection for gutter rash on the rims

The PZeros are much stickier in the wet so far - they also have much better rim protection.
