There is a safety feature on the window, so you son would not be unduly hurt if the window was to come up and he put his hand in it....
I've seen how much force from personal experience it takes to activate the safety stop and I've seen how small a 4 year olds arm is. Unless BMW have increased the sensitivity of it.

Not a problem now though, now I know what makes it happen, the 2 presses, I won't use it unless I need it.

The speed limit display is an interesting one - I try to ignore it as not always right (if your sat navy isn't up to date), but I do agree on your point about fleecing more money!

Will look out for you when up in the land of the crooked spire next weekend.
Thanks, he enjoyed the day.

I know that my Audi wasn't always right, as speed limits change, but using it in addition to my own observation, especially on roads I don't know was really useful.

I'll have to get used to not glancing at my sat nav to check all the time. With 6 points on my licence until this time next year, for my only incident in 10 years, I'll probably spend more time at 30 whilst I double check than need be.
The reason BM charge is that they use a completely different method- The Audi speed limit info is built into the sat nav, whereas the Bmw has a camera that reads the signs.

That's great, if you want something more accurate. But if almost every other sat nav shows it, the mapping BMW surely buys in should have it.

On the basis of the last couple of days I'd say the SLD is a complete waste of £220. So far it's shown:

30 in a 50 zone
30 in a 60 zone
60 in a 40 zone and
50 in a 30 zone

And I'm pretty sure I've got a fecking ticket today because it was still showing 70 half a mile after I'd passed a 50 sign without noticing.

Wunderbar!

So, it's not better than the sat nav held info that they could probably get for free from their mapping supplier if they tried hard enough.

Considerably worse I'd say. Another one for the niggle list

Yes completely agree! Might be one of the few areas where Audi/Merc systems trump Idrive?!

If enough people complained, maybe they could change it. Surely only a mapping update required.

I'll start a petition....oh hang on, I can't be bothered, will just have to remain mildly annoyed by it.

Beautiful car. I am pricing up a 440i GC too. What colour are your 704M wheels - orbit or ferric grey?

Thanks

Sorry, didn't see your post until now. Yes, these are orbit, as the poster above said. They are the standard ones with the m sport plus.

Really nice car that, looks great in that colour combination. I also made the assumption when buying my current car that speccing the top media/navigation option that I would have the speed limit displayed, as it was on my £100 Tom Tom. It was on the demonstrator that I took out before ordering my next one though and I found it to be really useful so I made sure I put it on the order. It seemed to work pretty well during the 24 hours I had the car, changed immediately when passing speed limit signs and its an always on feature which I never realised, I thought it would just be there when using the sat nav guidance

So BMW's SLD is based on mapping or camera?
I don't have it on my BM and always regretted it as Mrs Bean has it on her Merc GL and it works superbly. I thought they were all by way of the camera behind the rear view mirror interpreting road signs at the side of the road, clearly BMW must have it set up wrong if it can't do that. I have to say the Merc system is 100%, the only one it missed recently was due to an overgrown hedge obscuring the sign.

It's camera. I didn't even think to look for it in the options as I just assumed it would be on the sat nav as most others are.

The speed data is surely in there for calculating journey times, it's just hidden.

On the plus side my observation skills have improved over the last month!
