403m warranty help
Anybody had these replaced recently under warranty? Car is 2.5 years old and is suffering from the usual corrosion around the centre cap. After reading a few post on here it seems a few have had replaced no problems however the dealer is saying that due to kerb damage I may have to contribute to the cost. Must stress that the kerb damage is nowhere near the centre cap but they are adamant that they won't be replacing without some contribution from me. Mentioned some tripe about the warranty rules about wheels changing in 2017 so if there is any kerbing a contribution must be made. Dealer was Marshall Scunthorpe and tempted to have a ride over to Doncaster to try my luck

I mentioned spots of centre cap corrosion on two of my 403Ms when it was in for its end of warranty check 3 weeks ago. There was a little kerbing on 2 wheels.
All 4 were replaced under warranty. Your dealer is trying it on in my view. |

I had 3 of my 403s replaced due to centre cap corrosion - there was no kerbing on those.
The fourth wheel had been kerbed, and I was told that to get it replaced would require a £100 contribution from me. It all depends on how much money they're talking about from you, I suppose. Without numbers you don't know if it's worth arguing about or not. |

Mines going in on the 16th for this, the service guy was honest and said they have to send photos to bmw and it's upto them if they replace them. Basically you paying for the kurb damage means they don't have to claim and can do it quickly. I was warned it could take a few weeks to get a decision as they are having so many recently.

Think it's depends entirely on your dealer and whether they are prepared to take the risk of replacing it with kerb damage. I had minor kerbing to an alloy on my previous Audi A6 and there were also imperfections in the alloy. The dealer I took the warranty claim to wasn't the supplying dealer and they took the attitude of: 'the warranty rules for alloy wheels state that if the imperfection can't be seen from 3 feet away, and the eye is drawn more towards the kerbing first, then it won't be replaced under warranty(or you can do it paying 30% of cost of new one.) ' They also added that if I had purchased the car from them Audi would have paid 70% of the replacement cost and they would have covered the other 30%. I went back to the original dealer, Coventry Audi, and they happily agreed to pay the other 30% for me without even seeing the imperfection. The problem was if the dealer had replaced it at no cost at all to me, then Audi under the warranty rules would have billed the dealer for the full alloy cost when they got the alloy and inspected it.

I'm surprised by the degree of variation in how dealers approach this. My corrosion was very light on 2 wheels and non-existent as far as I could see on the other two and yet they supplied 4 new wheels. This was about 3 weeks ago. The kerb marks were certainly more visible than the corrosion on the 2 that had been kerbed.
I also reported some wear to a side bolster in the driver's seat. They told me that it was too minor to replace and they would repair instead. They either did such a good job of the repair that it's invisible, or they replaced. Not sure which. |

I recently had one of my rear 403's replaced as it was showing signs of corrosion around the centre cap. I was told that customers who have alloys with significant kerbing, but corrosion evident elsewhere too, are being asked contribute 25% of the cost. Mine was mint, apart from the corrosion, so cost me nothing.

I have significant kerbing on all 4 alloys and corrosion showing on my front two. Planning to go and see my dealer in the next few days so will let you know what they say.
