F1 - Hamilton?s to lose?

Another interesting race today - Merc had no race pace easily beat by Red Bull and by Ferrari if they had either started at all/or started in the right place...

Next track should favour Merc so Hamilton just has to get a couple of decent results and no DNF?

Was also a real shame for Colin Turkington in the BTCC today - awesome drive in race 2 but knocked out in 3....

Enjoyed the F1 again today Steve yes. Mercedes well off the race pace again on this circuit but Ferrari manage to implode again. Indeed Hamiltons to lose now really. Seems a shame F1 moving away from there too.

Yep it?s a great track but they never got the commercials right and just goes to show when you try to run a sport as a business like Bernie did what happens - glad to see the new guys looking at options to run it.

When you've got that kind of lead with 6 races to go then definitely his to lose. The Mercedes is a little of the pace but not miles. Hamilton finished comfortably in 2nd place.

He just needs to keep ahead of vettel in the next 2 or 3, whatever the position is, as long as its podiums he's good.

Stroll obviously had an issue with Vettel today...how random?!?!

Everyone thinks Vettel is a knob! Even Alonso was making him sweat when he got lapped.

He only finished 2nd because the Ferraris were not in the correct place otherwise he would have been 4th.

Are there any tracks that are able to get the commercials right? I don't think any of them make a profit.

Indeed it is. Almost, but still not quite enough for him to win finishing 2nd if Vettel won every race between now and the end of the season.

Well deserved win for VES after his run of luck/implosions

VET did well to get 4th and should have comfortably won the race had he been 'in position'

Thought it was HAM championship to lose after the Red Bull sandwich in Singapore to be honest

the championship is far from over. Yes Ferrari need to stop throwing points away, but the result could easily have been a vettel win and Hamilton 5th, and if that pattern was to continue then that advantage won't last long. I also am fairly certain of a Lewis dnf soon, it's just the way a season pans out. better won 2 of his championships from further back than he is now. it's look difficult for better yes, but its far from over

I think it's definitely Hamilton's to lose and personally I don't see him messing it up. Of course there's always a chance of a non-finish but a) he can afford one of those and still be ahead of Vettel and b) Vettel and Ferrari aren't showing the sort of consistency they'd need to capitalise on any mistakes from Hamilton and/or Mercedes.

I also don't think you can draw too many conclusions about the pace of Hamilton and Mercedes yesterday; once Verstappen got away I think there was an element of Lewis thinking of the championship and pacing himself accordingly. When Ricciardo looked like he was getting a bit close for comfort Hamilton seemed well able to respond and up his pace to maintain the gap so I don't think he was quite as slow as some people are making out!

And finally, if it comes to a wheel to wheel fight with Vettel there will only be one winner - Hamilton is a far better racer IMO!

Not over yet, but with Vettel on a certain 5 place grid drop at Suzuka, it's going to be difficult for him to get on top.

Vital that Bottas plays his part and is between Vettel and Hamilton on that starting grid.

Actually forgot about that with the drivetrain swap last weekend for Vettel. Excellennnnnnt (Mr Burns voice)

Thing is Bottas is shite so don?t expect him to play a part. Hopefully Vettel gets a grid drop, Hamilton extends his championship lead and then it?s 4 races to go. Been a great season so far!!

I hope Vettel doesn't get a grid penalty - personally I'd far rather see the title settled by a series of straight fights on the track.

Hamilton has been really lucky this year I think. In the last two races he could have finished 5th in both without him doing anything different.
Singapore - How far back do you need to go for the last time the first 4 cars to go out within the first few corners?
KL - Both Ferraris are faster than Hamilton but both are out of contention before the start.
And what hasn't really been mentioned is how pretty pathetic Bottas has been. He's been really disappointing and clearly not up to challenging at the front. Hamilton is lucky that Rosberg isn't still around to take points off him.

Rules are rules though, and F1 has plentttty of them. Surely it's a grid penalty or is it under review?
