Don't know if this counts but I will take the cross country route where I can rather than a dual carriageway or motorway.

I suspect the reality of those articles is a lot of time ha going around, driving the same bit of road back and forth whilst the photographers bags the right shots, so you can easily scout ahead and see if and where there is anyone waiting to catch the speeding motorist.
Yes, that would probably work, especially if the test route is relatively short. To be honest I couldn't see the police turning a blind eye to cars being driven well over the speed limit on a public road so the use of observers to alert testers to when there's a camera van approaching is a more likely solution!

Living in Leeds and working in Harrogate I have several routes including some longer ones on quiet backroads which I sometimes do just for shits and giggles. Especially since I got the 340i

I wondered if this was the real benefit of the EVO triangle... it's long enough not get too boring to go round and round, and yet short enough that you could whizz round once, check for vans and police, and then post folk at the start/finish of each leg.

Yup still go for a drive all the time.

Have at least 2 driving road trips planned for this summer, partly because they will be on the type of roads I love driving on.

Guess it depends where in Leeds you're starting from but if the main road default option is the A61 I'd have thought the alternatives between Harewood and Harrogate are limited?

I have the Leathley/Beckwithshaw road as an option for part of my commute but that seems quite busy nowadays and if you get stuck in a queue you've had it as the safe overtaking places aren't exactly plentiful; nice view while you're stooging along though!

I'm coming from LS28 north west Leeds so not normally on the A61 although at the moment the extra traffic caused by the A59 closure is sending me that way rather than my normal route up and down Pool Bank.

For some fun the back way from Otley to Beckwithshaw via Lindley Wood reservoir is entertaining if you get a clear run.

Hmm likely going to get flamed for that, but huge cars, too much traffic, too many speed cameras etc etc etc have pretty much killer a UK passion for cars.

Well done do gooders.
I agree with all of that. My x40i makes the daily drive less dreary, but real fun...no.

Too much weight, too much grip, too much power, too much traffic and too many speed cameras. The too much weight/grip/power arguments go for most cars these days.

Hooning a 100bhp, 1000kg ish, skinny tyred saloon in the early 90s on empty roads was far more fun in hindsight. Balancing grip at sensible speeds vs. (now) having the power and grip to go at crazy speeds - and I don't even have xDrive so it's a battle to stay on the tarmac or accelerate most days if it gets a bit humid

Caterham/Elise/boxster - perhaps would see me take a different view.

You'd be doing pretty well to get a fine on the EVO triangle. It's like a tarmac rally stage in many parts and 60mph limit.

Garage List
I drive for fun most weekends as I don't use my car for commuting anymore.

Sunday afternoon's when the weather is nice is probably when I drive most. It's a 10 mile drive to my parents house so it's a nice excuse to take a slightly longer route.

The NSL piece of the road from Harewood to Arthington is awesome if there is no one on it.

Which is unfortunately a big "if" a lot of the time and probably next to no chance at normal commuting times!

The Leathley/Beckwithshaw road is good fun when you get a clean run at it but that's sadly much less often the case than it was say 20 years ago; more traffic combined with people not being inclined to overtake means sitting in a queue is the most likely scenario (at least at normal commuting times).

Indeed but guess this thread is about driving for fun not commuting, I wouldn't expect it to be clear during those times obviously, I drive on it around 7-8pm most Mondays and often get to enjoy those corners just before you hit the 30mph section.

You've just got to get past the slow traffic on the straight before hand but 430hp helps with that task.

Yes absolutely this, drove from Oxford to Whitstable recently and mostly followed the A272 which is a marvellous drive through Sussex and across the weald of Kent

Also drove Oxford to Plymouth without touching the M5 or A303. Only added about an hour to the journey and was much more relaxing, didn't sit any traffic apart from centre of Trowbridge otherwise completely clear

Yes - especially in the winter when it's the only way to stop my brake disks rusting away to nothing.

I'm going out tonight after the football is finished. I'm in Scotland, on the longest day of the year, the weather is good, and my dad's M135i is criminally underused...

Use to...as much as I like my 430d I spend allot of time in it for work and it’s nothing like my old Boxster. Any excuse to get out in that and drop the roof I’d be out in a flash!

I’m hoping when my daughter gets a little older she might enjoy going out in the 4 with the roof down on sunny days!
