Better luck today with the HRM. Took the strap down one notch so it wasn't so tight and whilst it took a little while to kick in, once running it stayed with me most of the time. I did stop once to see if it was working properly as it seemed to stay fixed for a suspiciously long time but it seemed ok. Got on with my run but once I hit my recovery phase and slowed to a walk it lost it again. More positive but still not quite there yet! I now need to work out how to make the font bigger, I can see the rate ok but it could do with being a little larger so I don't have to peer at it.

Ok so maybe you were cutting off the circulation before. Although even the dedicated running watches appear to have the same problems so a chest strap is the answer if it?s important to you.

Aye, I'll see how it goes but I think the armband thingy in your link might be the way ahead.

Yes the armband does look better than strapping something around your chest! F knows when I’ll get time for a run with my current workload, really want to try it out!

You got any ideas how to use the side line buckles to shorten the strap? Damn krypton factor....

They sound great for 20 quid.

Going for a set of jaybirds to pair with the Apple Watch once I'm happy that it's going to work as I need it.

Now spending a ridiculous amount of time looking at l at her aftermarket straps for the AW
OK I admit - I don't like the AW compared to a fitness watch like Garmin. Maybe it's me but I find it all a bit...meh. Not worth £350.

I would prefer fitness first then smart watch stuff a distant second. So this is going back to good old John Lewis and I will take a look at the new Garmin Vivoactive 3 which has some great reviews.

I had a chance to try out the soundpeats last night, they are really good aren?t they, got nice strong bass! Incredibly simple to connect to the phone/watch too!

Sony or JVC could put their branding on them and sell them for 3 to 4 times as much!

Feck it. I?m ordering some. Had them in my basket for a few days. Like my AK headphones but the cord does get in the way when gardening so will give these a go.

Cheers for the recommendations chaps

After a week in, I'll sum it up by saying the music and GPS are great but the HRM is utter tonk. It's completely unreliable. It takes an age to pick up, is erratic and drops out constantly. As an example, my runs are bookended by five minute walks to warm up and warm down. It never picks up on a warm up and today I finished my run at 155 bpm. Two slow walking minutes later I'm at 159, one minute later I'm at 161 and one minute later it's lost the signal. I know my recovery rates and this thing is way off the mark. I shouldn't have to be fretting and checking to see if the thing works when I'm on a run, I should be able to fire and forget until I'm done so that I can concentrate. What a pain in the arse.

I ditched the AW and sent it back. Bought a Garmin 935. Expensive but it's in a totally different league. If you want a sports watch with some smart stuff then this is a beast.

It's basically a Garmin Fenix 5 without the bulk. Does all my running, cycling, walking, gym, cardio, golfing, heart rate, weather, notifications. The list of sports is stupid.

Oh and apparently the battery lasts around a week with daily activities and tracking. It charges in around 60 mins. So far it's brilliant.

I shouldn't have to after spending nearly £500! Bloody thing.

Anyway, if you have a spare five minutes this may give you a chuckle:

8 things I learned from wearing an apple watch

I think it’s more a limitation of the human wrist than the watch tbh.

Interesting but very odd article! Think it was written quite a while ago about the AW1 though, as it mentions no GPS.

I discovered something new (to me) today, you can change the watch face just by swiping left or right! No need to go on the iphone app!

can't believe you hadn't swiped left or right until now!

Have you used Apple Pay on it yet? It's great: sounds pathetic really, but it's so much handier than using the phone.

Mine only arrived on Thursday past and I'm loving it. The customisable complications are great. I just 'need' to see a stock price and weather report while on the bog

First workout is tomorrow though. That will be the real test.

HRM better today for my long run, tighter by one notch and not so far down the wrist but it still conked out for the last 7-8 minutes. V dull.

I decided I didn't need a 3rd gen AW

So I bought a series 2 Nike + instead

Haven't a clue what I can do with it yet mind you!
