A family member of mine works in a dealership, I am not exactly sure what his job position, but I frequently see him on the road driving the dealership cars pretty aggressively lol.
But they were always M/3,4,5,6. I think if they have access to those cars (for whatever reason they are driving them and I am 100% sure he is not doing a test drive for a diagnosis), I really doubt they would have any fun driving a 340. |

I came to the thread after the major uproar, and I see it differently. Telling me I am wrong as to how I see it, warrants no further response. OP didn't do himself any favors with some of his responses, but many of the initial responses were quick to be judgmental and antagonistic. |

One doesn't have to own a Ferrari in order to considered slighted if his car was used for a joy rides or errands. Any customer with any car would be upset if his/her car was used for such BS. Not directed at you, just in general; It's odd that some people think that the more expensive something is the more respect it warrants. I guess those of us who have merely an under $100K car should simply expect and accept that our cars don't warranty being treated fairly. |

I also heard from another friend who used to work at bmwd dealership....the lot boys are sent to pick up the cars arriving at the port and what they do to them you might not want to hear lol. Revving engines of new cars at the redline, lining them up and drag racing them, etc (all of this is when the car isn't even warmed up properly). |

I wouldn't call it excessive, I'm a Audi technician, there are times where putting that sort of mileage is warranted. I don't know what part of the country you're in, but its possible that the dealer was afraid of a buy back scenario, and wanted to make sure that the car is absolutely perfect. Repeated extended road tests to verify a alignment concern is normal, its possible the tech took it to a road that is perfectly flat and smooth. I often have problems verifying minor alignment concerns due to the fact that all the roads in NYC are shit.

"Probably" doesn't answer the question. Your guess is as good as any, as mine is. For me, I have hands-on mechanical experience with cars for over 35 years, so I have my points of view as others do. Yes, there is a chance it MIGHT have taken that many miles, but given the other information from the OP and the way the OP describes the lack of proper communication from the service writer or manager, and how long it took to fix the issue, that calls into question what that service department was doing. I can see a lot of miles needed if the dealership is located in a congested urban area where it might take a good 10-15 miles of driving just to get to a clear and open road where a better test can be done. In that case, then sure. It could take 20 to 30 miles round trip just to get to a road condition like that. Then the in garage work and then test. That's 40 to 60 miles, and bingo. That of course is a specific scenario, and without knowing the details we are all speculating as to what really happened. However, some jumped to their own conclusions early on and then didn't let go without attacking and revving up the OP. My main point is that it didn't need to get there in the first place, and it's bad form and rude to make a new forum member feel like he or she is some idiot or asking a basic question. If the OP already knew the answer, then he wouldn't have asked it. As for the compensation thing, ok, that's a bit over the top. But still it's a legit concern that a lot of new car owners go through when the new car process doesn't go as smoothly and happily as we all want it to be. Cut the guy some slack is a better way to handle responding. Chiding and deriding someone asking for help is NOT HELPFUL, and puts a person on the defensive, just like what happened in the thread. |

Sorry guys, to those of you who wanted to know what exactly was done on my car ,as stated in the work order.
I'm on vacation for next 1-2 weeks traveling, so I haven't had a chance to post the work order detials. But, I will post that up here as soon as I can. Also, the dealership has called me twice: 1. The service advisor called me to ask if everything wa ok and to say that he heard from the service director about my concern about the mileage put on the car and he repeated the same story given to me by the director Afterwards, he asked me if I would leave him a 5* survey ... 2. Got an email from the dealer service dept asking for a survey . I have not responded to either and not really sure how to handle my response on the survey - as the service advisor was friendly and easy to work with , but the experience with the techs is probabaly more of my concern |

I took my '13 335i in for regular fluids, but also asked that they diagnose squeaking brakes and a dash rattle (which I said is prevalent at h/w speeds).
Got it back with less than 3 miles driven and the statement that they were unable to reproduce either of the issues. I noticed them both not even a block away after I left. I would have been ecstatic had they driven 60 miles to diagnose and resolve the issues.

Would you rather they drive the car 61 miles, diagnose and resolve your issues OR have to bring the car back multiple times until they can reproduce the issue and resolve it?

I'm sorry but I can't stop laughing. If the car is fixed and there's no damage take your business elsewhere next time unless you live in a tiny town and it's the only dealership. Actions speak louder than words.
