Maybe they have too many performance parts left over for the 435 and need to get rid of them to make way for the 440... Lol

really this car will EASILY get into the mid $50s and you add navigation and some other stuff that is STANDARD on an M4 and you're looking at about a $5k difference....and the M4 is way more car than this 435. Really makes no sense at all to me...adding a diff and some suspension upgrades still doesn't bring it to M standards by any means....IMO.

Porsche takes all of their 'S' models and slaps on a bunch of aero, wheels, a powerkit, tinted lights, exhaust, and charge $15k extra for it as a 'GTS' and no one freaks out. I don't get why people get so worked up about this as it is exactly the same concept.

I disagree. When Porsche did it with the 997 and 991 GTS, the car was priced LOWER than the sum of its parts if you added the options yourself to a base Carrera S.

What BMW is doing is just silly by selling only 100. The markup will have no value to me as a potential buyer, being that I can buy the same car for less when I option it out myself.

It's hard to see the demand with this. Pricing out a U.S. spec 2015 435i with the M Performance options mentioned (and that are currently available) comes to:

Base 435i M Sport, Black grills, side decals, M Sport Brakes - $52,230
M Performance LSD - $2895
M Performance Exhaust - ~$1800
MPPK - $1500
Front aero lip - $1500
Rear diffusor - $500
Rear spoiler lip - $625

Granted those are all MSRP. Even without that new track package though, it comes to $61,050. If I had to spend this much even buying the parts myself, I'd just put a few more thousand down for an M4.

I think this car, as a package, needs to come in well below $60k for it to be remotely considered by buyers.

I'm not a big fan of the 4 series, except for the M4. The M4 fills all the body lines the regular 4 lacks. This is all from an aesthetic stand point. Also, I can imagine the price for this car won't be cheap, might as well jump in an M3/M4

not knocking the previous zhp at all so don't try to grill me for that.
It seems to me that this is ZHP is mostly a combination of options and M performance upgrades that you can already equip your 435i with a la carte. So it's effectively a "combo meal" configuration, with a few unique touches.

By contrast, the upgrades to the e46 ZHP were not available as standalone options. You couldn't even get the Mtech-II body kit, whereas every other 328i has M-Sport.

This is very disappointing. I'm no expert but it sounds like the car they compare it to had truly bespoke components like new camshaft and higher red line, and all we get now is a pieced together 435 with performance parts packaged as a limited production model? Is this a joke?

you could have gotten most of the e46 zhp parts. they were not exclusive like that. sure you might have not been able to check them off on your build sheet, but you could have gone to the dealer and ordered the body kit.

The GTS also gets a widebody and center locking wheels off the top of my head. And it's not limited to 100. And it is cheaper than building it yourself.

You might be able to have them custom build you a widebody Carrera S, but I cringe thinking how expensive that would be.

We're clearly only talking about what you can spec from the factory. You can build anything if you buy all the OEM parts. I almost wrote that as a caveat in my response, but figured it was common sense.

I thought that too but with just a run of 100 examples, dealers will probably be stingy with them to the point where it may just make more sense to order the a la carte and negotiate the price on each item. You can get them over at getbmwparts.com for a reasonable price.

Only to build excitement for 4 series up to LCI and 440i. only reason it will sell is because of the rarity. This isn't meant for money maker its a brand equity thing. Comon guys you think the 1M made money?

I dont think this is in the same ball park as the 1M. This is essentially zero effort from bmw and is pretty embarrassing tbh...losing more and more respect ...

You should go back and drive a 135 with an open diff again.

HOORAY FOR BMW putting limited slip differentials in vehicles. This just might keep some BMWs in club racing and autocross.

sticker on my 435i loaded w/ m-performance aero was about 60k+... 64k gets you a base M4. either this is going to be a deal (not likely) or be well into F8X territory.
