They are attached. The airbox connect to the grill vent by an "arm."
If that's the stock setup then I can see why BMW has air entering at a 90 degree angle. That makes it less likely for water to be able to be forced directly into the airfilter box. In that case an air scoop wouldn't be desirable

Yup, they are attached. Duct runs from airbox to the front of the car behind the grill, and has a square grate as stock (his pics show the grate removed and scoop added). Your pics don't show the duct that runs from airbox to front of car.

Hello everyone, here is the sound clip i promised I've tried with my gopro but where it mounts on top of the car the wind just overtakes all the sound even with wind reduction on. So this sound clip is with my phone attached to the center of my windshield wipers lol, you can still here alot of wind but the sound comes out a little more this way.

Hey bro, what intercooler brand/model do you recommend? I bit the bullet and ordered the FabSpeed HF downpipe and a BootMod3 tune. Want to run stage 2 and they said I need intercooler. I am running a stock turbo and stock exhaust.

Things I have so far are listed below, please let me know I'm missing anything for stage 2 besides intercooler.
  • Evolution Racewerks N55 (3.0T) F30/F32/F33/M2 Charge Pipes N55
  • MST 2012-2016 BMW 335i/435i [F30/F32] Intake system (BW-MK3351)
  • Turbosmart BOV Kompact EM Dual Port VR9 - BMW N55 E90/E92/F Series
  • MST BMW N55 3.0 TURBO INLET PIPE (BW-MK3352V2)
  • Fabspeed M235 / 335 / 435 / M2 Catted Downpipes
  • Bootmod3 Flash Tune + Free Enet & Phone Adapter

PS been buying all this from Extreme Power House

Bigger than a 5'' stepped, which eliminates several brands.

I would get a 6.5'' ("competition") or the largest ("race") IC. I personally run VRSF race now (previously owned 5'') and its no doubt an excellent IC but everyone knows VRSF quality control can be hit and miss (had an issue with 5'', no issues with race). There are other brands that offer race ICs (MAD is a new one Mike sells that is very cost effective, but little datalogs on it yet), so you can just research and pick one. Just make sure it has good fin density.

Also, you will probably want to buy XHP trans tune at some point, but that can come later. If you are getting everything installed at once, you can also consider replacing the TIC pipe to save on labor, although its not really a necessary update/pre-requisite.

Ok, thanks man. I'll take a look and post some options back for your thoughts. I'm new to all of this, just bored with my car lol.

Someone showed me the trick to tag vendors, but I forgot.

Forum members, let us know how to tag vendors; I need to tag manufacturers sometimes to get their opinion on customers' questions.

Is it possible for you to give us a before and after pull with that MST intake? Intakes are pretty simiple to install, so hopefully it will not be that big of a hassle

I've done it a few times too, but I forgot how to do it. It literally completely on accident.
