Front Bush Replacement

Just had my 335d serviced, and apparently my front bushes need replacing. I'm being quoted £570 all in.

Does that sound about right?

I guess it depends on whether that's complete arms or just the bushes being pressed out and replaced. I'm assuming it's the usual 'thrust arms' we're talking about

The arms are around 60 quid each for a decent make (eg TRW) maybe a bit more for Lemforder which is probably the same as BMW fitted at the factory
On a lift it wouldn't take more than an hour to replace both sides.
Strictly speaking a wheel alignment is required afterwards so that £570 might include that

Whether that's a good price I don't know, it's not a complicated job but a decent balljoint splitter is required.

Cheers. Having only bought the car from BMW last April I’m a bit surprised. Only covered about 10,000 in that time too, but I guess stuff wears out.

Didn't the car come with a AUC warranty ?

It did, but wouldn’t this be classed as wear and tear?

If its the thrust arms with the hydraulic bushes leaking, then the front hubs need the drive shaft 'split' at the hub to allow the arm joint to clear the hub housing. The non X drive variants don't need it split and are easily changed. Its a bit more involved on X drive cars, so probably why its costing more.

Just had my upper control arms (trailing arms ? ) done as they were leaking oil under extended warranty, the cost for that would have been £432 +VAT.

Shouldn't be wear and tear - if it is then you have an argument that the car was sold to you with heavily worn parts that should have been changed before sale.

I'd certainly be asking the question, and if I didn't get the reply I wanted I'd be asking for it to be taken higher up the chain to BMW UK.

Cheers Guys.

It's now booked in with BMW Reading next weds for a diagnostic check.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was sold to me with a defect given the absolute shocking service I received from the dealer. I've bought a dozen or more cars over the years, and this was by far the worst service I've ever received.

That said, I love the car.......
