N47 timing chain?

Hello.

F30 320d 93k 62 plate. Been running fine about 6 months. Recently noticed slight drop in performance, bit shakier and some slipping (is cold/wet and new tyres defo needed). Timing chain apparently replaced at 85k but wondering if that could be some dodgy car dealing..

Would be nice to get an indication on what's wrong before I take it into service and get lumped with a bill. Knew these engines sounded like tractors but the diesel gargle can be quite violent when cold.

I feel like I can hear a slight chirping/metal sound coming from bay (around 15 secs in). If anyone can have a listen and let me know id be super grateful and sort you a bev. Tysm!

Video unavailable. Metallic chirping could be the turbo or one of the pulley bearings at the front of the engine... water pump, alternator, A/C pump, belt tensioner(s) etc.

Start the engine without the serpentine belt and see if the noise goes.

Garage List
Chirping or Metal Squeak typically involves with accessory units of the engine.
Timing chain is more of an rattling noise for 10 to 15 seconds at cold start.
I had chain replaced and still have the metal squeaking noice from accessory units which I'm not too much concerned with.

BTW the video is unavailable.

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted some advice/ suggestions with regards to the issues I’m facing. My bmw F30 330d x drive has suddenly developed a loud timing chain noise…
(something like a rollercoaster ride being pulled up). I’ve had the car services 50% of the time within the network and other times outside the network all at dealer recommend intervals. Insured Warrenty have refused due to pre existing…

Upon the dealership inspection and stripping the engine - they’ve come up with the following “diagnostics”

Visible float/movement on the cam shaft
Crank shaft has float/movement which is outside of tolerance

Also play in the time chain

There is a significant difference in the oil condition from the top of the engine to the bottom (bottom is ok but the top is sludge)

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
