Thanks in advance.
The steering wheel should have 4 wires
There are 2 connections for power the other two are for the thermal switch.

If you look at the picture below it shows my steering wheel connected to the control module.

Looks like the steering wheel I was looking at is not heated, it has the Hands on Detection which is a 2 wire connection.
Thanks.

I had an original an M4 steering wheel WITH heating retrofitted on my F32 435i. I coded VO, wrote to ECU and ensured the following parameters be set as such:

CODDT_BYTE_00_SZL_LIN = LHZ_aktiv
LIN_VARIANTE_LRE = lre_tlc_lhz
LIN_VARIANTE_SZL = szl_4Band
LRE_Verbaut = aktiv

Unfortunately the LED light of the button does not light up. The kombi shows steering wheel heat is ACTIVATED (when button pressed) but the wheel does not heat up.

Have I forgotten some steps? Missing some coding options perhaps?

Any input is very appreciated. Thanks

Can you check for power at pins 1 and 4 on A83 4B ? this is assuming you are not using the airbag connector spare pins.
If using the airbag pins check you definitely have power on them.

Can you check for error messages with E-Sys - I had wrong SZL message

Hi Hawk,
thanks for your suggestions. I wanted to check for errors with ISTA+ but unfortunately my version on the laptop is somehow corrupt and cannot open the program.
Of course it could be it's not getting power as the button does not light up. In fact only a short message appears in Kombi "steering wheel hear activated" but nothing happens for the rest... and no LED tells me it's like "dead". As for the pins I would have to go back to a local specialist here who mounted it for me.

I will see that I get ISTA reinstalled. I use E-SYS only for coding not sure how you can see errors there. I can say that during coding I had no errors - all went fine and smooth. In a German forum someone suggested coding all ECUs of the car? I was advised to do FEM_BODY, ICM and KOMBI that should suffice.

So finally I had a specialist look at it today (someone who really knows the WIRING stuff of any BMW) and he figured out almost immediately that one wire had not been connected at all and turned out to be the decisive one! Once he connected it, the LED light of the button lit up upon turning on and the wheel itself began heating up! The mechanic dude who mounted it for me last week omitted such a vital connection..... I will ask him for a refund as I'm still very upset!

Good news for myself I added S248 in FA and the options I coded stood correct and I didn't make any mistakes there. That is what I doubted at first. Well it's all good now. Thanks to those who replied here.

The switch plugs into the szl column module just behind the trim covers.

thanks guys^

i been looking at Switch unit steering column
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...59#61319351144

i found it confusing where same part number has different arrangements, i.e. 61319351146 which shows Steering wheel heater = Yes but same part number further down shows Steering wheel heater = No

Confusing

Can someone help me figure out what part numbers i need for a heated steering retrofit for my 2016 328i. I have the sportline steering wheel with vibration and paddles. I bought a sportline steering wheel with vibration and paddles and heated through ebay. I am still waiting but im trying to figure out what else i need. I know i need the button and the trim. I also need a connecting cable and a control unit? I cant seem to figure out the control unit part number i need. Everyone has the m sport control unit. Is it the same part number for the sport line steering?

I've seen these variables using EXPERT MODE in bimmercode. Can you detail what each means? Under LinSteeringWheel in the FEM, I could only understand one var and it was the cycle time before the heated steering wheel turns itself off.

My car already came with heat and vibration coded for the steering wheel. It stopped working last week. I only have bimmercode and would like to deactivate the heat module, and then reactivate it, as sort of a pseudo-hard-cycle. If this doesn't make it again I guess I will have to find ISTA for my Mac and buy a cable.

Hi,

this is how you can sum them up:

LHZ (Lenkradheizung) ist the German abbreviation for heated steering wheel.
SZL (Schalt Zentrum Lenkrad) is the Switch cluster steering column
LRE (Lenkrad Elektronik) is the Control unit, steering wheel electronics
LIN = Lin Bus (LRE is connected at LIN)
LIN_VARIANTE_LRE = set with the lre_tlc_lhz parameter if car as Lane departure warning (Vibration) und heated steering wheel

THANK YOU KIND SIR! I had found that variante setting when sifting through the expert mode options. Coding the module inactive and then active WORKED! Steering wheel is toasty again!

Hi, im planning to retrofit my f30 with heated steeringwheel. I already have a heated wheel installed but have a couple questions. I have a "normal" szl without vibration or heating functions. So can i plug the switch (to enable heating) in the szl without problems? My + and - will be tapped out cigarette lighter and will be placed in pin 1 and 3 of airbag connector. Thanks for any help

I'm not sure, I did this mode on my F06 M6GC (same as F10 chassis). Mine had power adjust steering column and the button for this uses the same socket on the SZL as the heated wheel button does, so the socket was good to go.

I don't know on F30 if you will even have the socket pinned out to receive the heated wheel button if the SZL was specced without it.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

See the very first post - this gives you the part numbers of SZL that does and does not support steering wheel heating. Even though an SZL may have the socket for connection of the switch as doughboy says it may not be pinned out.

Is there a definitive but concise list of what is required?

There are a lot of part numbers kicking about!

I'm selling the parts to add heated wheel to an F10 & F06 5 & 6er.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173825904989

All but the on/off switch is the same for an F30.

Also 2 bespoke looms, 1 to get from clock spring to heater controller module and one to get power from armrest cigar lighter to back of clock spring.

Needs coding of course, this is £300 of parts for £99 "buy it now"...
