Cracks in paint/lacquer after wheel repair
So i recently had 2 of my wheels fixed due to bends from potholes, one of which I had to get refinished since the bend was on the face of the wheel. Fast forward 3 weeks and I noticed that the paint/lacquer used on my wheel has started cracking all over.
I plan to give the company that fixed/refinished the wheel a call but wanted to get someones opinion on what they think could be the cause of this? Will this happen with any type of lacquer used? Is the best route to go getting the wheel recut? If i would have known this was a potential issue I would have just purchased a new wheel entirely however the company assured me that they had no issues refinishing these wheels in the past. Thanks Last edited by Zyler; 11-27-2018 at 08:05 AM.. |

There may have been a problem with application of the clear coat (too heavy, not completely dry), but if "the company assured me that they had no issues refinishing these wheels in the past" I would bring the problem to their attention & let them make it right.

It looks like curb rash, and the company that painted them might say that, except that it's happening on the inside faces where curb rash can't reach. That might point to improper prep before painting, but then the damage should be everywhere, which it is not. Are they both like that?

That looks like bad prep-work or, which i think it is, uncompatible clearcoat over the paint.
you should definitely go back with that and make them do it again. |

Spoke with the shop and they said it is an "undercured powder clear coat" and they need to put it back in the oven to fix, and if not they are going to redo it.
