So I've managed to lightly scuff one of my 403m wheels. Although it isn't the end of the world my OCD is driving me nuts & I'm going to have to do something about it, although not sure what yet.

Being fairly new to BMW, it appears that there are a few known issues with these wheels & replacement from corrosion seems quite common, but is it??

Obviously we're all enthusiasts & I expect that we look after our cars alot better than Mr/Mrs Average, therefore I would expect that the alloy corrosion would be talked about a bit more. But does anyone know roughly how common an occurence this is??

I find myself wondering whether I can live with the damage in the hope (?!) that I may get some corrosion & the wheel get replaced under warranty. Thing is that the car is nearly two years old & absolutely no sign of any corrosion on any of the wheels. Law of sod methinks!

Also, were there two types of 403m wheels? Mine have a space behind the spokes whereas others i have seen the spokes are solid to a ridge behind (stupid explanation I know!!)

Interested in peoples thoughts....

If the wheel is damaged, then you're far less likely to get a replacement if/when you get centre cap corrosion.

Likewise getting a 403M re-cut voids the BMW corrosion warranty that they leave the factory with. If it's on PCP and needs to be fixed before handing back then unless you've absolutely Stevie Wonder'd the wheel just aim to live with it.

The stealer can ask for 'contributions' towards a warranty replacement if the kerbing is on the corroded section, but if you've got centre-cap corrosion and a wee scuff on the edge then honestly they're unrelated and the stealer is having you on.

I'm about to get my 3rd set of 403s on the car. When the first set was replaced, I'd curbed one of those and BMW did not bat an eye.
There are two types of 403 as you describe. Mine have the gap. I don't think it makes any difference to the corrosion issue. I do think though that 403s are more prone to corrosion than others. I'll find out on Friday when I get mine changed.

Not in my experience, if its round the centre cap, why would a scrape on rim affect it ?
Had all of mine replaced and two of them had slight kerbing no questions asked.

If you do a total refurb then yes I would suspect it would void warranty.

BMW only charge £25+vat a wheel for DC scuffs that are minor on return anyhow so don't refurb it if you don't have to

THIS - I had my kerbed wheels replaced with no question.

However, refurb them and they WILL NOT replace under warranty - guaranteed.
