I may just go catless seems like most. cars making power with these BM3 tunes are doing just that. AA has an M2 they race, not sure if its catless but I will assume it is catless due to track duty.. 413whp ALL day on the track!

The biggest problem is this small turbo and restrictive stock exhaust manifold as well. That little turbine wheel is spinnng like a demon creating heat like who knows what at high boost. The 340 it has no such problem. Bigger turbo better designed exhaust manifold.
Less back pressure. I see a speedtech 3 turbo mani setup in my future maybe in 2 years. Or even a pure stg 2.

Just want to add how helpful I'm wondering would a high flow cat be regardless of the stock turbo mani setup? Just thinking out loud. Many gone catless

If I were to do it I'd do a Fabspeed catted. I'd want to avoid the obnoxious smell. I'm not in search of max power, just a good running, entertaining car. Believe it or not my biggest issue is the sound. With the Akra the car sounds perfect to me. Any louder and I'm not sure I'd enjoy it. I've gone that route too many times in the past and regretted it.

My Scangauge can measure EGT. I wonder if that would somehow correlate to Cat temp. Obviously not nearly as useful but I wonder if its worth anything.

I just faint everytime i see the price point of I think it's 1,400.00. Thats a third the price of a built bottomend!

Just waiting to see what AA is coming up with.

11. Why does Fabspeed use German-imported HJS catalytic converters?

HJS is one of most well-respected names in catalytic converters. HJS cats are made in Germany and are designed to be durable enough to handle the rigors and abuse of running at top speed on the Autobahn. Fabspeed utilizes HJS cats due to their proven durability and unmatched performance. Competitors will often utilize cheap domestically-made catalytic converters to save money, but premature failure is very common once these cheaper cats are subjected to the abuse of high-horsepower cars and spirited driving.

NOTE: Fabspeed’s 200 cell HJS catalytic converters are not C.A.R.B. certified and are designated for off-road use only in the state of California.

Would be nice if we could convince them to do a group buy. I like a catted dp too.

Too bad the much cheaper Wagner DP is a 50 /50 solution as far as CELs are concerned. Even 765.00 makes me shriek.

Yeah, cheap it ain't. I'm guessing that unlike you I'm not working any longer. Now its just a race to hit the end with as close to zero in the bank as possible. Not that its that much to start with, but the way I look at is, how happy would I be two years from now after living with a lesser pipe versus how much would I miss the extra money by then.

But like I said, I'd hate to spend the money on the Fabspeed and find the car too loud. I put a Flowmaster on a supercharged Mustang Cobra once and it sounded horrible. Also did a full exhaust on a Viper but it was predominately a track car. Only street driving it saw were short trips and that was fine.

30 years?!?!? Congratulations. Enjoy your retirement. Personally I always found work highly overrated. These days my biggest concern is do I walk the dog before or after breakfast.

Now, I guess we need to pressure DIY Guy to spring for that Simon 2 cable. After all, you can't expect us retirees to spend our Social Security money on such frivolities.

Thank you! and God bless you! I was gonna ask one of you guys for a loan!

40 hours a week sionara!!!!

Have 3 jars of coins to add to my Social security!!

I'm jealous of you. I still have 13 more years to go with Junior then 4 years college. Thankfully I have other resources, including his Step Mommy!

I'll ask DIY to lend me his cable if he gets it, when he is done. Hopefully gives senior discount!

Ok hit the wall on the custom BMW PIDs.. looking at it, the 328d file will do no good I hear because the ECU locations and info is different, so I cant use that to build off of and need to start over entirely.

So I still have the stock PIDs which seem to work ok, but dont have some that are available in the custom pids.

Steph I am going to order the cable and see what it gives. They(AA) told me it will work and that I can order it thru Mike! I think I have enough Merchandise points to get it for cheaper than 45.00

From what I read the Simon Cable requires logging software for another $50 something. Maybe I misunderstood, wouldn't be the first time.

I am so torn on this. I can go either way and I actually do occasionally. I am catless now. The sound is awesome. The results are even better. However I am a nervous about what summer brings with the windows down. I am 42. Have three kids and a wife. All four of them aren’t going to enjoy the smelll. And frankly if I had to take a coworker I’d be pretty embrassed of the smell. Its a real shame.

The fabspeed is a great looking piece. And I am sure it’s better than stock. But I have serious doubt to it performing even half as good as catless

I finally had the chance to do the AA flash drive log at the same place as I did with the Stock flash drive log a few weeks ago.

I will do some more logging with the summer tires on, once I have more time. I just wanted to share this with you hungry folks

Conditions:
- 335i touring F31, AT, RWD
- All Stock: cat, air intake, exhaust
- 98 ROZ gasoline on both pulls
- same place (flat road)
- Winter Tires 225/255/18"
- Launch Control by driver (as you can see on the graph I started around 2000-2200 rpm lifted the brake pedal and then floored it)
- SPORT mode (not SPORT +)
- AA pull had like 20 kilo less of gasoline loaded (1/2 full tank)

Stock flash 0-100 km/h:

AA Flash Stage1 0-100 km/h:

Stock flash 0-62 mph (0-60 is reached in 5.40 sec):

AA Flash Stage1 0-62 mph (0-60 is reached in 4.65 sec):

Run two gals of E85 and the smell won't be as obtrusive.

Just because I could, I checked the EGT this morning. The temp spiked on lift off after full boost at 1585. Boost hit 15.2 and A/F was 11-12.

Normal cruise the EGT was around 1200-1300, A/F right around 14.7. I have no idea where the EGT sensor is, or if it has any correlation to the Cat temps, but its closest I could get with the Scangauge.

Could the DME be reading EGT temps and lambda through the 1st or 2nd O2 sensor possibly?

You may be right. I can find no part listing for an Exhaust Gas Sensor. I did find a thread on an M5 forum talking about how the sensor was deleted in the early 2000's. Probably the same for the F30. Would be interesting to know how its done.
