Electronics in back half of car not working
Symptom 1: The rear left and right signal lights are not working when using the turn signal indicators, but will work with the hazard lights indicator.
Symptom 2: the two rear door windows also stopped working (both using the buttons on the driver side or on the door itself). I have a 2013 F34 with frameless door, so the auto up/down when opening and closing the rear doors is not working as well. Symptom 3: the rear boot also stopped working, be it by the button in the cabin or on the boot itself. I tried to open using comfort access by swinging my foot under the bumper, and the lights flickered as usual but the boot doesn’t open. Does anyone face the same issues in the past and managed to get it fixed? Given the symptons, it seems like a fuse issue (hopefully). Anyone has idea which fuses are related to the symptoms mentioned? Thanks in advance. Last edited by liveevil; 01-06-2020 at 08:22 AM.. |

I don’t have the equipment to connect to ISTA. There is no error message on the idrive, and I don’t have any codes on JB4 scan.
Just also realised my rear boot has also stopped working, so updated the first post and the title as well. Don’t think the motor for my boot, rear power windows have all spoiled at the same time, so am guessing it is just the fuse (hopefully)!! |

This sounds like a problem with the REM, since that ECU controls most of the back half of the car. REM controls the fill level sensor, heated rear window, rear power windows, seat heating, rear lights, and the PDC system.

I searched on newtis and there are three fuses in the rem. My rear brakes lights, PDC and reverse sensors are still working, so hope it is not a replacement of the REM!

Sent the car to the workshop. Have most of the symptoms related to the real electrical module but surprisingly, some are still working.
Found a number of threads on bimmerpost found after using Searching for the right words. Puma reset of REM > https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1385766 https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/bmwte...dule-died/amp/ Replacement of REM > https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1524239 https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1640413 Loose connector on REM (possible since I changed my battery recently?) > https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1627721 Will update in a day or two time when I get the car back! |

Just did valve cover on my wifes X1 N20 car (again, because I didn't know the valve covers crack) and fixed the PDC sensor wiring that squirrels chewed at the same time. Totally possible.
