SULEV warranty vs. exhaust upgrade

Good morning gentlemen. I'm the happy owner of a 2016 328ix. I've been following the threads on converting my dual outlet single-side exhaust to a more aesthetically pleasing and symmetrical dual exhaust. Especially the 335i conversion. My concern is keeping my SULEV warranty intact, since I plan to keep the car for a while.

I'm asking now because I was just rear-ended (only the car was hurt, thankfully), and since the car will be in the body shop for a few days anyway to get repaired, this might be a good opportunity to add a little something extra. I've got a good relationship with the body shop now since my car seems to have a target on it and is a regular guest at the shop.

Thanks in advance for any feedback. And thanks also for all of the terrific content.

Tony

Just me and an SA talking when I decided to get a full catback awe quad exhaust for my F36 N26. He said it will only be the exhaust that is out of warranty and said he hasn't heard of any warranty claim being blamed on aftermarket exhaust.

As long as you keep the OEM downpipe then your good.

On there conversion part it is PnP for most 335i exhaust only thing is you have to replace the rear bumper with a 335i for base bumper or replace the diffuser for m-sport bumper

Good luck

Exhaust modification after the cat will NOT effect any engine warranty or emissions testing.

Thank you gentlemen, that's what I anticipated. Apparently I'm getting paid for a new bumper, so this feels like the right time to switch to a dual oem bumper and exhaust.

To further the conversation, if someone else was picking up the tab, which oem bumper and exhaust would you choose? Mine is not a "sport" model with the removable diffuser. Gen13, you seem to recommend both the 335i exhaust and bumper combo. If you know, which years are PnP?

Thanks again

Tony

Any m sport rear bumper from 2013-2018 f30 will work. Also none of the mufflers are PnP. Exhaust hangers are the same but to align the pipe to connect it is a muffler clamp or you can straight weld it.

That's exactly what I needed sqwinny, thanks. I'll keep my eyes open for an Msport bumper. I trust the body shop to weld the exhaust into place.

You cut the exhaust at the dimple for axle back and the 335 should align properly other that a pipe diameter difference. I still call that plug in play . Let say 90% pnp....hahaha

Anyhow if you decide to go for a m-sport bumper you gotta decide what to do with your front bumper cause they will not match.... But if you can stomach a m-sport rear only then your good.
