Purchased BMS Black Chrome angled cut tips for my 335xi back in December. Finally got a chance to get them on last month with the installation of my Mperformance exhaust. The tips looked absolutely stunning brand new. 1000 miles later, it's a different story. As seen in the pictures, the right side has begun to turn bronze. I have tried several polishing products and methods. None have worked so far. Anyone else have this issue? Anyone find a solution to it? Are there any other brands that won't turn colors?

Due to the fact that they are black chrome plated & not polished stainless steel, or black powdercoat - it has discolored due to heat. Unfortunately, no way to 'clean' it back to original as it is not from deposits, it will never go back to original

Reason why only PS tip has discolored is because on the BMW dual exhaust the main tailpipe that is open all the time is the PS - DS pipe only opens up under certain conditions when directed by computer thru the valve on exhaust - since the DS pipe doesn't get much use it has not discolored yet...

If you want them to match - swap the tips side for side, soon they will both look the same

I've had the black ones on for about 4 months. That hasn't started yet, but there's just a lot of carbon build up. I think the anodizing there looks dope. Good idea to swap L/R. I always drive in DSC OFF mode so there's about an equal amount of carbon on both.

My eBay set with laser etched ///M are holding strong after 15k miles.

Cost less than half of what BMS charges.

Disappointing to see big brands selling sub par products for big money.

That's such a shame

I guess I'll switch them at some point but I really liked the dark finish on them, not this burnt yellow color. Maybe I'll look into different manufactures or even if I can have them refinished.

It's the little details that make the car

I wonder if they changed the process somehow to save on costs. I've had mine for 10k miles and color still holding up.

I emailed their customer support and the gentleman said that some cars reach temperatures high enough to cause the bronzing. I guess the 335i is that car. I'm completely stock other than cosmetic stuff. I'm annoyed and upset because these tips made the car look so sleek and now it looks trashy.

I've had the BMS tips on for two weeks on my 235i and mine went from black to blue in that amount of time, less than 200 Miles. They'll change more I'm sure. Purchased mine through XPH. Not impressed.

What did you end up doing? Different tips, or back to stock?

I'm leaving them for now. With the M-diffuser on the F22 the stock exhaust tip sits sunken in too much. Ended up having a muffler delete made and used the BMS tips to get the tips out just a little which hasn't helped with the fading honestly given the extra heat coming from the exhaust now.

I'll be ordering an MPE very soon to replace the delete as it's a little loud for my taste, odds are I'll be ordering the MPE tips as well.

My black BMS tips mounted on my MPE have done the same (right side changed color). It's funny, I never noticed it until this thread. The tips have been on since March. Since my tips are mounted nearly flush with the MP diffuser, the difference in color isn't as obvious. I guess I'll need to swap the tips so that the colors match.

It's not acceptable that BMS won't do anything about this and is BS and crappy business ethics, but I have to admit the color (a deep bronze), does look pretty good in the shadow of the diffuser, at least on my MW M235.

Can you post a picture? Curious what it looks like with the diffuser.

Keep in mind, this is a M235. The picture was taken about 3 weeks ago.

Do the 28i tips fit the 35i exhausts though? I don't think they do.

The color change is due to the heat - it's unfortunate but that's how most exhaust tips will react, especially in hot climates.

I really don't think it's BMS that's the issue - it's normal for heat to impact tip colors.
