100% E85, why not?

I tried to search for this particular subject, but it is hard to find any information regarding the topic. I have a '15 320i, and it is my first BMW, and I wanted to know why we can't run 100% E85? Is it due to the direct injection? Or maybe something else? I'm genuinely curious on why we're restricted to an E85 blend.

My track toy runs on E85 with a flex sensor that adjusts for blends when I'm in a location where E85 is not present (I run 100% E85 majority of the time), granted that car has a full standalone ECU, and I'm able to change every parameter. Other than the standalone, the only other modification is larger injectors (1000cc), and I replaced the 20-year-old fuel lines. I was under the impression that a JB4 or similar product would allow you to get custom tunes?

The 320i would be fantastic with an E85 tune since E85 loves compression.

Mainly due to the fuel pump not being able to handle the larger molecules of the ethanol, but also there could be damage to the lines over time with pure ethanol. A full upgrade I think is around a couple grand.

Wouldn't that be called E100?

Oops. Forgot to mention the fuel pump upgrade.

Not many companies make a drop in upgrade for an N20. A quick google search and I only came across Dinan's FP upgrade. I have read N54 guys adding an inline fuel pump with their factory pumps which sounds like a good idea?

Looks like I found a fuel pump that would work.

Well, I guess you're right since E85 is already a blend (15% gasoline depending on the season).

I should have said, "I don't want to fill up at an e85 pump then add 91 to bump the rating up".

E85 around here and most places isn't exactly "E85", the pumps can range from (E51-E83) So a station that only gives you an E60 ethanol rating you could fill up with just the e85 handle.

So is it possible to run full e85 with an upgraded fuel pump and a flash tune?

Nope, needs a upgrade lpfp or port injection depending on the platform.

The stock system can take around e20-e40, again, every car is different and needs to be logged. With the new BM3 software I'm not aware of what can be done but I haven't seen full E85 on the n20 platform. May need supplementary fueling like chargepipe injection.

I've been talking with Black market parts and Precison racewerks and they have a port injection kit that they've been toying with for the n20 but don't have enough demand for it. They also have a n55 igniton kit that could work with the n20 but it's a tad bit pricey you could buy a turbo lol

Ask precision raceworks if you can buy their kit off them if you're really interested
I asked them already they said their still working on it with their shop n20 it's still in the works basically.
