Leaky Valve Cover

My car has been making a loud whining noise and smelling like burnt rubber. Took it in and turns out the diaphragm on the valve cover is ripped and is heavily leaking. Unfortunately warranty only covers metal valve covers 😐 So while I’m waiting to DIY this, how dangerous is it to drive in the meantime?
