2014 328d
I drove 135000 mile.
I had problem with bosch fuel pump at 105000. Replaced fuel pump, injector, gas tank, gas line anything that diesel go through. Bmw extended warranty on fuel pump. Actually that defect fuel pump makes bits of metal and screw up all the components that related to diesel. 120000 replaced egr cooler. Had symptom of loosing coolant no sign of leaking. Im cleaning my dpf every 20k mile. |

With diesel mileage comes EGR failure
I have 106,000 on my 328d and began smelling diesel exhaust in the cabin. A tear-down revealed that the flex pipe on the EGR cooler had burned through, requires replacement of the cooler. Researched a bit and found this:
https://www.bmwblog.com/2018/10/23/b...lion-vehicles/ Continued driving with the failed cooler risks an engine fire. The EGR cooler parts are backlogged from here to eternity. I bought a diesel Passat because my F30 is going to be non-driveable for months waiting for the parts. I don't see any good answers for this problem - it's just going to take time to produce 1.6 million parts. The local dealership (BMW Southpoint) wouldn't make an appointment over the phone for the recall, so I drove there with 2 windows open for the exhaust problem. They made an appointment for Dec. 17, the official recall date, but when I called today to confirm, they had cancelled my appointment without telling me. Their technical service bulletin says in big red print, "no repair possible at this time" undoubtedly because of parts. I just bought a used (1200 miles) EGR and cooler from UK on ebay. At least I'll be able to get the car back on the road. Last edited by Alcuin49; 12-13-2018 at 10:11 AM.. |

Well I have seen some reports of the 328d being a high 14 to 15 second quarter mile car, stock.. so I don't think you'd have any problems reaching highway speeds.

Just hit 95k miles on mine; getting ready to do the transmission, transfer case, etc here as soon as I have a free weekend.
The 328D is a hair slower than a 320i, so it is the slowest car in the 3 series line-up, but it's still faster than a lot of cars on the road. You can get to highway speeds without any trouble |

I'm at 102,000 miles with a 2014. Atleast one Fuel injector has replaced since my ownership (since 44,000 miles).
Currently has a CEL P20FB "Reductant Pump 'B' Performance/Stuck Off." Has anyone seen this CEL? |

However, did you pull the codes with a generic scanner? These cars often require a BMW specific code scanner to get real detail of whats wrong. I remember getting some generic codes that were similiar when my DEF system was acting up. When I hooked it up to ISTA the "real" code indicated a short in the heater circuit for the SCR metering valve. I found the heater lines burned to a crisp. |

The car is at ~86000 miles. After the last oil change and the same shell diesel #2 my car averaged between 52.9 and 53.7 mpg.
Driving at 68 mph-70 mph for 1.5 hrs. 44 degree Fahrenheit outside temperature on flat Midwest terrain. I normally get between 38 to 42 mpg.. Could be tailwind but that is rare when driving N to S and E to W around Lake Michigan. I have no idea what changed, But I like it. |

I've noticed my MPG has been dropping off. I was getting 42-44 pretty steady, but lately it's been more like 35-38. Definitely been driving in sport mode a bit, but probably 3 low mpg tanks in a row now. I'm approaching 105k though, was thinking maybe the oxygen sensor could use replacing. I just ordered one so will see if it helps... they do use a fancy 5-wire wideband model for the upstream sensor on these cars, so I would think performance could very well be impacted without throwing any codes. Another lifetime part, you know
On a side note, I received another 120k warranty extension in the mail yesterday, this time for both of the NOx sensors. Still contemplating ordering a HP fuel pump for when the 120k warranty on that one expires. They seem to have about a 100k lifespan going off of experience here and in the truck world. |

Winterized diesel will definitely drop your mpg.
The oxygen sensor would not be a suspect, as it is used mainly to reduce fuel ratio (to prevent smoke), not increase fueling. Diesels do not have a set air to fuel ratio, so it would not operate exactly like a gas car.

150k
My ‘14 328d just crossed 150k miles. Two transfer cases so far. A couple of nox sensors as well and the check engine light just started glowing a couple of weeks ago, so I probably have another sensor replacement coming up. Getting ready to do some preventative maintenance, including belt, tensioner, water pump, trans fluid and pan, brake fluid.
Has anyone replaced the nox sensor themselves? Easy job? Any advice? |

Yes, Nox sensors are easy as long as you can get them out of the pipe. If I remember right, you may need to drop the heat shields to get to the little electronics box attached to the sensor.

I'm at 121k miles on my14. Got three warranty letters last week extending warranty to 120k miles for the steering rack and n0x sensors lol. So far, the only issues have been the driver door lock actuator and 1 n0x sensor both covered under warranty. Also the passenger lock started getting sluggish last month, so will be replacing that actuator soon. Other that that car has been great.

Driving is my typical mix of sport mode around town and comfort mode on the highway. I'm sure eco pro mode might be a little better yet, but I'm leary of how much it deadens the 'go' pedal. No good if you need to take evasive maneuvers or pass anyone. |

Guys I'm getting a slight but very noticeable cold start vibration. It only happens when the temp is -5*C or below. It's been like that since brand new. No CEL...And yesterday is got a slight smell of exhaust in my drivers side face vent.
Car was factory ordered on June 2017 and currently has 95XXX KM.

155,000 Miles here. Overall it's a very reliable car and a pleasure to drive. There are quite a few rattles and squeaks that I have been going after little by little. I absolutely love driving the car and the fuel economy. I am an avid DIYer whenever I can.
-Light bulb fell out of h7 socket and melted headlight housing. Replaced with aftermarket DEPO halogen headlights-both sides and had them protected with self-healing coating. Prior to replacement, I had all sort of lamp malfunctions. -Gap between hood and left fender after changing out headlights. -Brakes and rotors replaced at about 120,000 miles -Changed transmission fluid at 125,000 miles, running very smooth now. -CEL Replaced exhaust backpressure sensor at 130,000 miles because the hose was filled with sticky soot. Lower bolt of the exhaust backpressure sensor tube had to be retapped. -CEL Four fuel injectors replaced at 140,000miles. -Coolant leak (slow) probably associated with recent EGR cooler recall since I could not locate the source of the leak. -Rear Wheel bearing went bad at 145,000miles. Replaced wheel hub/wheel bearings since the mechanic quoted basically two for one price so I let him do both. Up next: Universal flex disk (giubo) to make the drivetrain smooth as new again. Rear differential fluid change Transfer case fluid change Rubber bushings will all be conditioned next time I get underneath the car. |
