EWG 335i Custom Tune & Exhaust Help

Hey guys, new to BMW & modding. Thank you everyone for your contributions to making this forum informative & helpful.

I have a 14’ 335i with:
BMS Intake
Pure Turbo Inlet Pipe
AA FMIC
Miami Performance Downpipe
Dorch Stage 1 HPFP
NGK Plugs
Bootmod3 Stage 2

Car is hesitating with OTS stage 2 map, so I’m thinking about going the custom tune route. All maintenance is done & installation of new parts have been triple checked.

What power should I expect to make with 93oct tune?
Should I also do an E30 custom tune?
From your experiences, is it better to custom tune by paying extra to dyno tune or am I fine “closed course” datalogging with my tuner?

Should I get an exhaust before getting the tune done?
From my research, exhaust is mainly for sound and looks while providing minimal HP gains for the money. Idk, correct me if I’m wrong.

Thanks in advance for your help.

you didn't list it in your parts, but you have or plan on getting a charge pipe soon too right? that is an important part especially when the tune is turning up boost. as for what can be excpected for an OTS map, maybe somewhere between 360-380? if you are having issues with the OTS map you can always contact PTF to take a look at your logs and hopefully send you a revised tune. since you do have the Dorch hpfp you can expect a little more from a custom tune though, I beleive BMWDIYGUY got a custom tune after an aftermarket HPFP and he was pushing just over 400, maybe 410-420 iirc.

Sorry forgot about chargepipe. Chargepipe is from VRSF. Thanks, I’ll take a look at BMWDIYGUY results. At least 400WHP is what I’m going for.

As mentioned above, you should probably figure out why yo are having issues with the OTS map. Are you 100% certain it is tune related? I wouldn't necessarily just assume a custom tune will fix it.

To your E30 question, yes, you should definitely take advantage of running an ethanol mix if you upgraded you HPFP. This is going to provide you the biggest benefit from a custom tune and allow you to extract the most power out of the stock turbo.

As the owner of a 536whp M2 N55 on E50 still using the original exhaust apart from the dp of course. I wouldn’t bother on a exhaust, save money and get another turbo, since you already have the hpfp and start going E.
At your current setup I would go for a E30 map and log to see if there is a problem, or just go custom

Yes it's tune related. Car doesn't hesitate while accelerating on stock or stage 1 tune. Only on stage 2 tunes. 91, 93 & E30. Im using 93oct fuel & obviously a mixture when flashing to E30.

Any logs that we can have a look at?
If lpfp is messing around or what is happening. I haven’t had any lpfp problems and still run stock. But each car is different, or gas rather...

To me, this does not confirm that there is not a hardware issue. It could just mean that the hardware issue is only present when running a more "aggressive" tune (higher boost, timing, etc). You very well could get a custom tune that pushes hardware even further and have the same or worse issue.

Also interested in logs with the issue and logs without the issue.

Have you submitted logs with the issue to PTF? That should be the first step.

Definitely looks like misfires; you can see AFR get affected and STFT try to compensate.

Miles on car/plugs/coils?

Any codes for misfires?

Have you tried stock plugs?

EDIT: Timing is kindof all over the place also. Another clue pointing to ignition system. IATs are also fairly high, could be affecting timing.

58k miles. Plugs and coils less than 5k. No codes at all. Gapped plugs to .022. Have not tried stock plugs.

Well, it looks like a misfire to me. IMO you should try switching to stock plugs and see if that solves the issue before just assuming a custom tune will. If you do not have the issue on stock or stage 1 tune but do on stage 2, my first inclination is misfires due to the increased boost from stage 2 (along with potentially some other changes like timing, etc).

You could also try running the 91 tune using 93 pump gas if you havent already (not sure if that's what the other log was or not).

HPFP looked OK so i don't think its a fueling issue.

When did the issue first appear? After a tune change/version update? After a hardware change?

Issue started after I upgraded to 7.1 from 7.0 then I deleted the file. Previous version was fine for me. I just logged E30 and sent it to PTF. We'll see what happens.
