B58 aftermarket clutch and flywheel options
There's very little data or positive long term reviews that I can find on aftermarket clutch options for b58. If you have the nice simple OEM 550i clutch, I hope it continues to hold up well for you. This is no fun.
There are constant codes about the DMF protection and clutch damage, I will not be buying another DMF. I hope it doesn't explode and chop my legs off. I rolled back to stage 1. 700wtq area would be good, some sort of twin disc. As far as I can find, for the b58, we have aftermarket kits from: - clutchmasters - spec - motiv - sachs I see kits for older models but no b58 from: - x clutch - tilton - dkm Flywheel has to be for b58. Any other options for b58? Anyone have any input or actual experience with an aftermarket kit? Thanks |

Yeah, I saw you mention that in the clutch thread. It _looks nice and there's some n54 use of it, but no 30k review that I could find. Some "I just installed it posts" and thats it. I think you said there's some supra guys running it?
I emailed them and didn't get a whole lot back. They "run it on their shop car and have no problems holding torque". Okay |

Bump again...
Does anyone run anything other than the 550i clutch? My initial hp/tq goals are conservative, but I don't want to have do buy yet another unit once I start upgrading my turbo and fuel injection system. I already made that mistake with my fuel pump (bought the TU only to discover it peters out even trying to run the E50 OTS). So anyway, any recommendations for aftermarket clutch/flywheel kits that can hold high torque (maybe 700-800ftlbs?) that people have actually used? |

I picked up the motiv kit many months ago. Sadly I haven't got to run it yet because I'm a dumbass. But we're getting there. Soon.
It looks nice. Their customer service and spec customer service really has been good. The motive is made by spec clutch it's I suppose a certain custom spec stage 2 disc. I don't know exactly how it's different, but it has their name on it. The key to installing a twin disc to use a center punch and mark the pressure plate and flywheel where the paint mark is. Because it's very easy to have that paint mark disappear as I learned. And the other thing is on the alignment tool, you have to keep your hand on it the entire time keep pressure up and in on the alignment tool while you're tightening the bolts. And the b58 flywheel bolts are torque to yield 45 newton meters 45°, not 120 newton meters as it's also listed in the table for some reason. |
