As mentioned recommended here, I used a new battery with specs that were very close to the original battery.
Then I followed instructions on YOUCANIC on how to register the BMW battery with a Foxwell scanner. https://www.youcanic.com/vehicle/bmw...-a-bmw-battery Everything went fine, been over two weeks with no issues. Thank you for your tips everyone. |

So, your new batt is not quite the specs of the OEM original, but you accomplished the registration successfully? Sounds great. I've be hesitant to buy the new batt, but I want to do it before next winter. Anything else you can tell me??

Interstate
I'm going to be replacing the batteries in both of my cars soon.
I am looking at Interstate batteries because I've had a lot of luck with them. The battery has a 95Ah rating. The cars would be a 15 328Xi and a 17 M2. The M2 has a 91Ah rating and the 328Xi has an 80Ah rating. I may have to go with the smaller rating on the 328Xi. I was hoping to do this with Bimmerlink. Could it happen or do I need to go another route? All advice would be greatly appreciated!! |

I don't know about Bimmerlink, but Bimmercode does batteries. You don't need to use an 80Ah battery in the 328, you just need to register it with the closest value that your tool will allow. Bimmercode, for instance, has 80 and 90Ah options for AGM batteries.

Are you sure that's a good idea tho ? I'm heavily against changing Ah size from stock, lower or higher, the amount of complex interconnected programs that uses these variables in the ECU is just not worth messing with. Not worth the risk to me, just an aftermarket one that fully fits the OEM spec.

Okay, I just posted a question in the forums about a problem replacing my battery in my F30 335i. I bought a battery from a local auto parts store and swapped it out myself, and the car still won't start. Are you guys telling me that we can't even do something as simple as changing the battery without some stupid dealer code/registration? That's supremely ridiculous if true. This is my second BMW, and I don't recall having this issue before.

Registration tells the car that it has a new battery, so it won't overcharge it. It has no bearing whatsoever on whether the car will start or not. If it didn't start before you changed the battery and it won't start after you changed it and you've verified that the new battery is charged then the battery probably wasn't the problem in the first place.

Exactly - I got the same error as the OP at first. Doing the registration step with the engine off was the key for me. I've put a few hundred miles on the new battery with no issues so far. |

So, I'm a bit confused about the battery part #, and am wondering if someone here has the answer.
I have a 2014 F30 328i, my current battery is 61-21-7-575-327 (90Ah, 900 CCA). Through searching, it seems my current battery is no longer used by BMW so I need to replace with a slightly different one. For ease, I am going to just order the battery from BMW and replace and register myself with Bimmerlink. From searching online, it seems F30 owners have been replacing with this battery: 61-21-2-353-812 (92 Ah, 850 CCA) However, when I search on different BMW parts websites, they all list 61-21-7-639-053 as the replacement battery. I'm confused, which battery part # is correct? Did BMW change it again?

There's no reason to buy a BMW labeled battery, unless you like paying too much. Your best bet is Pep Boys, who will install it for free, and most locations will register it as well. Call first to be sure if a particular location does registration. https://www.pepboys.com/car-batterie...0%202.0L%20Dsl
