63 Plate 320i xDrive

Hello all

new to this forum but not new to the bmw world.
I've just purchased a mint, well specced 63plate 320i xdrive. Will take a bit of getting used to the lack of power having previously owned a couple of 6pot e90's.

It has the really shitty single tip exhaust, so i'm wanting to make it a bit better looking for little coin.

Is the diffuser gap too small to fit a twin tip? Is it a different diffuser to the 328?
Is the pipe the same diameter as say a 328i?

Any advice would be grateful. I collect the car tomorrow.

is it an M sport? then chances are you can buy a twin pipe version and bolt it on! might aswell buy a Mperformace one then go to a local and get a twin pipe welded in. i think i read somewhere the Oem only has screws to hold the pipe. need some 320 owners to clarify more but ive given u some direction . hope it helps

Quite a few people have done this on here over the last few months.

Yeah it's an Msport. The diffuser gap looks kinda small to weld in or even just replace with a twin tip rear section.

I'm kinda hoping i don't need to replace the diffuser to put in a twin tip.

What's involved in that? Is it still a cut and weld job or do the trim finishers pull off for replacement?

looks like they just pull off (sometimes with gentle persuasion) and push back on.

Yeah they 'pull off', though that involved using a hammer and block of wood for me because it was very tight.

This thread shows a few who have done it too... http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1303967

I just went with the m performance twin tail pipes on my 320d, I brought a mint 330 diffuser £40 from eBay and the tips were £217 from Cotswolds. A bit pricey but it looks nice and oem

Hi mate. I've got a 320i and changed the rear box to a twin pipe. Got a 328i box from a forum member and had it fitted properly ie welded not using a clamp as the pipe diameters are different. Then I had to buy a new rear diffuser (car has m performance kit) and it looks so much better. It's a nice mod to do.

Can I ask what this cost, have a buddy looking to do the same to his 320i?

Yeah sure. I was lucky enough to find a 428i back box from a forum member which is the same as a 328i. He was having the mpe fitted and the back box was a month or 2 old and I offered him £150. It was £500+ for a new one.
Fitting cost me £70 (that was welding the 2 pipes together with a reducing coupler).
New diffuser cost me £320 but it's oem.
Obviously you can get aftermarket ones but my car has m performance kit already so I wanted an oem diffuser. I fitted perfectly and took 5mins to fit myself.
You could do It cheaper I'm sure but I was very happy with the results.

Also forgot to mention the flap inside the second pipe needs welding open so both pipes are in use. The 320i has no electronics to control this.

Unfortunately this accessory isn't available for the 320i. Would have saved me a few pennies if it was.

I guess this answers my questions. The 320 diffuser exit gap is too small for a twin pipe, so i'd need to replace the diffuser to accomodate twin pipes.
And by the sounds of it, i'd need a reducer to fit 328 back box to a 320 system.

Thanks for your help
