Any advice
Taking my F36 440i MPPSK on its 1st track day. I've driven tracks in the past (although not for a few years) but always in track / organiser supplied cars - ie this is the first time tracking my road car.
Any advice? Boringly I still have the factory supplied run flats on the car so I'm not expecting anything spectacular - but in a straight line I should be fairly quick. Traction on or off? It's a pit lane start so no launch needed Any noticeable power advantage from turning the a/c off? |

You are doing a track day, its not a race.
Your priority is to learn to drive the car, and find what inputs works. Dont wreck your car, and worse wreck someone else's car. Most insurances will not cover for track days. You should always use Traction Control if you need to ask. Esp for beginner drivers, the amount of torque at low RPMs will spin the car around in a heart beat. A/C should always be off, and windows down on the track.

I would pay for some track specific add-on insurance. I forgot the popular insurer mentioned here in some threads but I do recall a day being around $275 or so.

Echoing earlier comments: use the first day to gradually learn the capabilities of the vehicle. It's much more rewarding to appreciate how the vehicle is able to perform in increasingly demanding situations.
Watch for the reduction in braking effectiveness as the brakes get hotter. |
