New car detailing

Just wondering whether to let the dealer slop some supaguard on (I know it will be average at best) or pay extra for proper detailing.

I've been quoted £600 for gtechniq ceramic coating plus wheel and leather protection. The guy gets very good reviews.

Does that seem reasonable?

Also, are smart repairs possible with a ceramic coating?

Thanks.

Yes, the ceramic coating will be lost when the repair area is flatted off with production paper before painting.

Thanks, so you could get a smart repair but the ceramic would need redoing? Would that mean getting the whole car done or just the repaired panel?

Just the panel. The product itself is not all that expensive relative to the labour costs of prepping the whole car properly for coating.

Gtechniq have a website where you can estimate the cost of the detailing by selecting treatments you want. They also have approved detailers on there too.

Personally, I'm a fan of the product and my next car will be done from new.

By all means go for it, but haggle.

I was offered F1 ceramic inside and out for not much less. I pushed for £250, got down to £300 but walked in the end.

Garage List
Was in the same position myself I've decided with the help of friends I'm going to have a go myself (don't worry they are people I've got talking to through a detailing group!) If you can afford I'd go professional.
