And this is evident in the comments on the G20. Some are seeing it as an improvement on the F30, (interior design, quality, fit & finish, etc.), some reporting by quite a big margin. While at the same time others are saying it has gone down market, cabin is not really improved, evidence of cost cutting, etc.. It is all about perception, eyes of the beholder, emotion and the like. To say 'better' there has to be a benchmark, an accepted standard which we all can measure against. |

I recently had a G20 whilst my car was in for service and I was impressed.
During the course I have owned two F30’s and I think there has been a great improvement on the interior. The interior of the F30 was the main, and probably only, reason I went to the F10 last time. A friend of mine is looking at the latest X5 which has the same style of interior and that impressed me as well. Each to their own but I’d take a G20 over an F30 every time. |

The G20 isn't a bad looking car in person. Drove a M340i at the last M Town Event:

Interior was boring but updated. Black isn't flattering, but it's subjective. I like the styling. My only caveat is the size. It's just too big now. The 3 series is moving way from a small to mid sized sports sedan and into a large sedan. After an E31, 2 F30s and 2 F80's I'm done with the "3" series unless the G80 looks like something really special. So far though, as improved as the G20 was aiming to be, it isn't the industry leader it once was. It's keeping up, but that's not enough.

I'll reserve judgment on the interior style and driving impressions until I get a better look at the M Town event in a few days. For me I think the M340 is the best looking version of the G20.
One thing I've noticed across multiple series of BMW cars over the last 2~3 generations is I prefer the external M Sport cosmetic designs much more than any other options. The "normal" G20 does nothing for me, but I like the M340. Same goes for the F30, last two generations of 5 series and the pre-LCI version of the current gen 7 series. When attending an unveiling event for the current gen 7 series, my wife even commented on nice the M Sport model on display looked compared to a luxury line model next to it, and she's really not into vehicle design. |

I had the chance to drive a brand new M340i at our local M days school and track event and it was outiftted with a bunch of mperf cosmetics and I thought it looked awesome. It also handled and drove like a dream. it did not compare to the m2 comp or the m4cs or the m5 comp i also had the very fortunate chance of ripping around the track but overall for a daily driver the thing was brilliant and I loved it. I also love my 18 340i but the interior on the new m340 is way nicer no contest.

As more G20 vehicles appear on the road, the initial impression of poor visual esthetics will eventually dissipate and new BMW models will steer the attention towards them. Like the new X3M and X4M ...

I saw the M340i in person... over-all I liked it...except the grill... Hope they change it when they do a facelift in 3 years typically... just a little bit smaller...

I get it. I used to be a hardcore MT guy and thought I would never drive anything but a MT. I was proven wrong when I drove a DCT M3. I'm now on my second and I would get a DCT over a Manual in all situations if it were available. However, I did NOT like the auto on the M340i as much as the DCT. I did not like it in the M5 Comp either. Don't get me wrong, it was not bad, it shifted fast, but it wasn't close to the feel of the DCT. The ZF8 3 series is a no-go for me and I might get the G80 MT if it is significantly lighter than the F80.

I don't think it's ugly it's just uninteresting and boring looking. It's better looking than the F3X, although I like the rear of the F3X better.
