GAP Insurance Recommendations
I'm picking up a new car on Wednesday, well, March 2018 (4 year PCP with Williams), and want to look at GAP insurance before picking up my car, and being offered their high price version.
Any recommendations, along with the type to go for would be appreciated. |

ALA (discount codes available)
I used totallossgap which would give me a replacement new car (even if a newer model) for 5 years should mine be written off |

Total Loss Gap.
Significantly cheaper and better cover than all the others I checked out. Made the dealers offering look stupid

When I was going through the finance for mine, the Dealer said "Feel free to refuse the world's most expensive GAP Insurance" |

Just yesterday I purchased GAP from ALA for the Wife's car.
If you use code PISTON12, then it will apply a 12% discount.

In the end I got GAP new car, W & T, Dent, Excess - about Ł900 in total but I should be covered for every eventuality now

Be mindful you may not need in first 12 months as your insurer may cover you
Check with your insurer first Also then check with gap provider will insure you after 12 months |

Get a cheap like for like quote on the internet and then show it to the dealer. The dealer will match your online price (or mine did anyway).

I don’t think the dealer GAP insurance has the option for replacement vehicle. I’m pretty sure RTI is the top level with them.

Dealers are not supposed to negotiate on these insurance products anymore. They blame the FCA but I've had the same story at other brands. I picked my new car up yesterday and the dealer wanted Ł650 for 5 years return to (Ł47k) invoice GAP.

I think it's true that you need to buy GAP when the car is new or thereabouts.
Some insurers will take into account your normal car insurance and only start cover when the car is 12 months old. |

I always use ALA too, great prices, I can also confirm that if you need to claim they are superb and fast. The policy actually helped me in more ways than expected, I wouldn't buy a new car without it now.

Be careful with that assumption. Many insurers will give you a replacement new vehicle in the first 12 months if you claim off your insurance. However, make a claim against someone else's insurance...

Glad I came across this, policy taken out with “insurethegap.co.uk” but will probably switch over to ALA or total loss gap.
Seems to be some differences that are quite important. |

+1 for ALA, got vehicle replacement for less than half the price the dealer was offering and I there theirs was only return to invoice.
Hoping never to use it right enough.

Does this mean we shouldn’t delay any gap policy as there is no way to know what the other party has? |

Even though my insurance was new for old for first 12 months, I knew that my insurance would be due mid way through that year and I didn't want to be constrained. Check out prices too - some companies charge for the delayed first year.
