Looking for opinions on upgrading to a Go Fast Bits DV+ with an N55 running BootMod3 EWG Stage2 93 Octane with the stock turbo. I don't expect to ever upgrade the stock turbo due to the huge cost of parts & labor. I'm very happy with this current setup in my daily driver.

I have the impression that upgrading to a DV+ will get the jump on a potential stock diverter valve failure, and also provide better control over intake pressure.

Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

UPDATE: After much research I installed a Turbosmart N55 Plumb Back (quieter) model which is a complete swap unlike the DV+ that reuses some of your old DV parts. I couldn't be happier. In Sport Mode it does a great job of only bleeding off excess boost instead of dumping it all. So no turbo lag & power is right there when I put my foot back down on the gas.

Bryan at Kies Motorsports installed it on my car. A link to his video is near the end of this thread. He removed the DV+ and installed the Turbosmart N55 Dual Port model on his car. It vents to atmosphere with a whoosh sound.

Hope this helps!

I noticed a tad better throttle response after I installed mine. Could have been placebo effect, who knows lol. I have one listed for sale if interested, let me know.

Do you mean better throttle response at higher revs, or throttle response done low from a standing start or a lower engine revs?

Down low during spirited daily driving is where I noticed it. My car always held boost fairly well so I didn't notice it holding boost any better than the stock DV did.

I noticed your for sale post about 8 hours too late... I would have scooped the FMIC, charge pipe, and DV+.

Have you thought about pure stage 1 turbo upgrade? No need for more fuel, modest bump, and I think it's under $1k...

Pure has stated that 2014+ cars with the EWG turbo, gains would be negligible with their stage one upgrade. PWG cars would see a nice gain with the stage 1.

Regardless of modifications, the stock DV will start leaking and rob power. & response. Most don't notice because it happens very slowly and you become accustomed to the current power/response.

A good rule of thumb is if you have 50K miles it's time to upgrade. Stage 1-2+ or Upgraded turbo guys definitely want this upgrade.

I have an N55 EWG which is when BMW switched to a larger turbo with 4" downpipe. I was told Pure Turbo Stage1 is a wash with my car, no real upgrade. Plus on an xdrive I heard the labor to replace the turbo and necessary mods is as much as 16 hours. So not practical for me to mod the engine any further.

Okay so you are saying that the diverter valve is definitely a wear item on a modded car that should be upgraded.

So if you don't have many miles on your car so your stock DV isn't really worn yet, if you upgrade to a DV+ what change or improvement will you feel from the DV+?

If you ever thought about Stage 1, just go stage 2. No reason not to want potential extra power and not have to "remod" to a different turbo. The PS2 still drives well at lower boost if someone didn't want to go "all-out".

The cost of the Pure Stage2 turbo including labor is way out of my price league.

Turbosmart just released an Electronic Plug and Play version of their EM Valve for the N55. They have them available in a Plumb Back Version that recirculates like stock and a Dual Port version that vents to atmosphere. No need to to tear your stock one apart, it's a direct plug and play valve. It sounds great and definitely holds boost better under lighter loads.

Thanks for the info. I searched on N55, BMW, etc on their website but nothing came up. I'll have to call them. Do you have any more specific info like part numbers that are designed for the N55 engine?

I would call them directly for a part number since it has just been released. I am sure we will see more on it soon.

I would definitely upgrade over the stock Pierburg Valve that carries open under low boost conditions. It needs to pressurize in order to hold boost and it has been proven to not hold under low RPM and Light Load conditions. It's also nice to have something that can vent more than stock to keep compressor surge under control especially when running more boost or even a bigger compressor wheel like Pure's.

In all fairness there is really no need for anything if we keep them stock.

I checked the BMW section of their website again today. Nothing newer than N54. No one answered their phone. Left a voicemail but no one called back. Oh well, there's always tomorrow! 😀

UPDATE: I did receive a call back. Sounds like they are in the middle of new product release activities so I'd keep an eye on their website for updated information.

I’ll just chime in once more and point out that I googled the Diverter failure and it seems more like a N54/PWG issue. Most OTS and tuner maps aren’t running 18psi on the stock turbo.

I was reading a thread this morning on a turbo inlet - that would be where my money goes. 20hp in the top end would be awesome.

Also keen on part numbers and rough ETAs?

I think my DV needs to be upgraded and would rather this if available over the GFB.
