Still doesn't get around the fact that a airline could still go bust, but at least it's only a flight and you can always get another one. And we've only ever paid for a hotel on arrival.
So do we, not really sure why anyone goes down the package holiday route these days?

Protection. Ease. Never having had a problem. Always been happy. Often no more expensive...

Just because it’s the traditional way doesn’t mean it’s bad.... a bit like phoning someone is often so much more successful than sending a text or email. Hey, actually meeting them face to face...

Such a caring attitude. Hope you never get caught out having made a mistake...although if they booked an ATOL protected holiday they shouldn’t need money...

Do you have a suggestion to solve that? Auditors have to give an opinion on going concern - which is ability of company to survive 12 months from the date the audit report is signed.... now at the time they check that, it’s unlikely that any doubts are being allowed out into the market - as rumours of financial distress tend to be self fulfilling, as suppliers pull credit and customers shop elsewhere. So the auditors are trying to reach a conclusion on a subject that is by its nature secretive....

Good luck with a fail safe solution.

Amen to that statement, I've lost count of the times I have to say to my team, pick up the bloody phone! When I ask why something hasn't happened and they say "well I've sent an email but they haven't replied"

Same here, it's the forgotten technology that still works!

Powerful tool, but people of a certain age seem to be allergic or perhaps scared of using it to speak to someone.

I’m an auditor myself. Looks like in this particular case auditors are the last to blame, let me explain why. Thomas cook year end is September. September 2018 was the last date auditors signed off accounts. Since then TC lost £1.1bn in winter 19/20. Banks got nervous and asked for more capital. Shareholders lost fate and didn’t come up with extra cash. Banks pulled credit facilities, resulting in administration.

I warned my parents about booking TC - luckily they returned from their holiday last week.

Travelers will eventually get home and / or get their money back. I really feel for the employees who will now have to look for a job at the same time as the whole company. I imagine some may fail to get into their chosen industries as a result.

Brexit uncertainty is really hurting this country.

Was Thomas Cook male, female or gender neutral?

I suppose it had to happen - scammers are calling/texting people claiming to be from Thomas Cook and asking for their bank details, supposedly to process refunds.

I feckin hate scammers, and ones who prey on people in incidents like this even more so!

Well i'd day that's a job well done by all in unfortunate circumstances. You'll always get a few people having their agony played out on the news/socal media but considering there are/were 150,000, i haven't heard that much.
