CEL ON only when engine is off

Hello,

The CEL on my 320i xdrive 2014 is on only when the engine is not running, when I start the engine it automatically goes off. The CEL light up and STAYS ON when I turn on the engine, but goes OFF immidiately when I start it. Something to worry about here ?

What you said was contradictory. But...

If your CEL is lit up while the vehicle is running then you have an underlying issue.

Have you thought about BimmerLink? It allows you to scan for codes and clear them (among other things). Relatively cheap too. I believe you can get the app and an adapter for about $50.

Highly recommend it.

It's normal for all sorts of dash lights to come on when you turn on the ignition. It's when they stay on after the engine starts that you have a problem.

Completely normal. These lights come on more or less as a “pre-flight“ check so that you know they are all working before you start the car.

i can't stop laughing at this i'm so sorry

As long as your CEL isn't on when the ENGINE is up and running, everything is PERFECT!

On every car i've driven the CEL is on with just the ignition on and engine off. Once you startup the engine the CEL light turns off.
