Spark Plug Replacement PSA

Just want to let everyone know that the recommendations we can run spark plugs to 20-30k miles is BS. I ran MHD stage 2+ E40 for 15k miles (not even hard miles, handful of street pulls max) and my plugs were shot. I should have replaced them at 12k miles. I'm running the NGKs from Burger motorsports, stock gap. I started noticing louder exhaust burbles, lurching from a stop, poor on/off throttle response, massive timing drops. Since replacing the plugs this is all gone and back to normal. It was so bad I thought my transmission was going out.

Replace your spark plugs at least every other oil change. They are not special plugs that last longer than E9X plugs.

Yeaaaaaaaa been doing this a while on many cars and platforms and never have I ever had to change my plugs at earlier than 40k intervals even on stage 2 tunes. Not sure what setup your running but I would start checking some stuff if your burning through plugs in 12k

You got pictures of those plugs shot at only 12k miles?

Sounds like something else caused them to fail. Plenty of people go 30-40k on plugs.

They didn't look horrible. But made a night and day difference when the new ones went it. I wouldn't say they failed, just wore out. The car still ran on them with no misfires or codes. I've also been doing this a while and have never seen plugs last more than 20k miles on tuned cars.

Weird that you wore out plugs at 12k miles. From what I've read tuned NGKs seem to be wearing out at 19k-20k so I plan to change mine at 18k. The first thing that came to mind was that maybe you got some counterfeit plugs but Burger is a reputable vendor who should be selling the real stuff.

You noted the burbles got louder, does that mean you run a burble tune? If so there's your answer my friend.

I run stock burbles, lowest possible setting on MHD. If I could turn it down further I would.

Not sure why people can't read. They were at 15k miles. Trying to upload pics but imgur won't upload on my phone right now

Started getting miss fires on the original plugs at ~25k and changed them at 26k. Had been on JB4/DP and 93 since 1200 miles. After that, I did them at 45k and again at 63k, along with coils on that last one. Then I grenaded the stock turbo at 64k, so did them again. I like to do them by 20k, because I don't think they have a ton of life left at that point when I'm FBO/e40.

Thanks for that, it did lower the burbles but not fully remove it. Seeing as I was on the stock settings (never changed when I flashed MHD), that would mean everyone with M sport burbles would be blowing through spark plugs if it was the cause.

I've noticed M sport trim models have more burbles than the regular/luxury trims.

Ion know about allat. My 2016 340ix 6-speed was FBO but untuned for 2 years prior to BM3 release. The stock tune was very burbly and would produce gunshots and backfires very loudly with no problem. Maybe that changed with later software revisions, but I thought stock it was absolutely crazy lol. BM3 OTS burbles are actually slightly toned down from my experience.

Mileage seems to vary all over the place for tuned vehicles from 12k-40k. Picked up some OEM plugs from FCP so I won't have to worry about anything other than labor
