My 4 last had a brake fluid service in April 2021, 15k miles ago, before I bought it. Due to condition based servicing, the calendar dates of that and the oil service don't fall together like on previous cars I've owned.

The car is now saying it wants a brake fluid service. I'd rather not take it into the garage (independent) to just to get that job done, as it's a bit of hassle to get the car there and collect it. It's hardly urgent, but that's just my opinion. I'd rather get it done around this time next year when it'll need oil.

I recently took out the comprehensive extended warranty as the year I got with approved used had elapsed. The policy document says I must "regularly service it in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations" and that the warranty will not cover "repair or replacement required wholly or partially due to lack of maintenance".

Any thoughts on whether me putting off the brake fluid service would likely cause them to deny arbitrary warranty claims?

I'm not too worried about the warranty cover of the braking system, and I'd expect them to try and deny that using this excuse. But I wouldn't want to have something drastic like a blown up engine denied because I was late getting a brake fluid service. Would be similar question with a late microfilter service.

I agree the misalignment of serving with cbm is inconvenient. However, I think the conditions of your warranty are pretty clear. Seems odd to take a warranty out to protect against cost of a repair yet not want to protect against a repair with poor maintenance.

It would only void your warranty of the brake system if you don't, say your engine slipped a bearing, this would still be covered... the brake fluid has no effect on engine performance.

It's up to you but does seem weird that you will pay for the warranty but are happy to almost instantly void your warranty on one of the cars most critical systems. Why don't you call your dealership they might be able to offer pick up and drop off of your car if you're local, I know mine does.

I see your point, however this would hardly be "poor" maintenance.

I would be interested to know if anyone had (or did not) have a warranty claim on something denied because something entirely unrelated was serviced late. For example, an electric seat replacement denied due to a late oil service, or a blown gearbox replacement denied due to a late cabin air microfilter service.

A warranty claim wouldn't be denied on an unrelated point, I'm 99.99999% sure of it. Those sorts of dodgy tactics by insurance companies have I believe been stamped out.

i.e. I'm confident that not getting your brake fluid changed is not going to stop a warranty claim on a failed rear light cluster.

However I suspect they'll successfully wriggle out of *any* claim to do with the brakes.

The only person that can answer your question is the warranty company. You can quote what others say on here but they won't take any notice.
