Need advice...

The front passenger side run flat that my car came with blew out with a small tear in the sidewall today. The tires only have about 17000 miles on them. In a spot where it feels wasteful to buy one brand new one as the tread difference would be about double on the current tires. Thought about just buying a used run-flat for the time being. Thoughts? Thanks.

Definitely better to get 2 new ones. They normally only last 20k miles anyways. How much tread is actually left on the other front?

Or take this as an opportunity to get 4 new non-runflat tires

This would be my advice as well. Better to have a matching set, especially on the front.

Definitely get two. That has happened to
me a few times after taking a few construction nails in the tires.

There are some new Michelin Pilot sport 4zp run flats that seem at least to me worlds better than anything I have run in the past. In case it matters they are also star bmw rated.

I have also noted that the tire pressure on the door does not work well with oem run flats. My dealer recommend different pressure and on my second set of tires I doubled the mileage on them. The door says 32/35 for my 340. The dealer said 36 square and that has worked great. I would probably even go to 36/37 as the backs wore just a slight bit faster. For me, the first set of rfts were all worn on the edges, not the middle using the 32/35 setting; with the 36 square I had even wear on all four tires for the most part (maybe a little bit more on the back. I have a staggered set up so I can not switch from front to back. Anyway I hope that might help?

Hey everyone appreciate everyone's input. I know some time has passed but wanted to give a little update. At the moment when I had made the post I needed to be able to drive the car asap since I had a family member in the hospital. All local shops did not have tires in stock and needed to have them shipped which would have taken too much time given my situation. I went ahead and just replaced the front with a used run flat. I have bought a new set of tires and am going to be replacing all 4 of them soon enough
