Curb Rash

So, my gf finally took my 340 for a drive yesrterday for the first time and ended up curbing the right rear wheel.

She said it happened when she took a sharp right turn coming out of the gas station which has a tight exit.

Now the tire has no damage or marks, but the wheel is scuffed. My main concern is can it cause damage to suspension or alignment ? Or can the wheels be bent ? These are forged 405Ms. The speed was around 10-15 mph from what she told me.

I have never had a curb rash before, so I don't really know. Took the car for a drive and it drives totally normal . Just so sad about this whole episode

By the pictures, I doubt if it is any more than a cosmetic issue, should not have damaged the suspension and other operating parts.

A wheel repair place (or DIY if are handy and have proper tools) can remove the blemishes easily enough, and polish the areas so one would hardly know it happened.

I have done the same to mine (front right) and now you cannot see it at all.

Definitely don't DIY this, let a professional do it.

Due to the diamond cut finish, you lay need to refurb the entire face or the entire lip. It can be repaired good as new, though.

Kind of relieved, I was more worried about potential alignment or wheel bending issues.
I will call the best wheel repair shop tomorrow here and try to get it in as soon as possible.

How long it took for the repairs to be completed for your rim ? Longer than a day ?

Thanks for the suggestion, I was thinking that due to machined finish it can't be repaired at all and I was looking at a new rim now.

Giving the shop call Monday morning first thing. Will they need the wheel for longer than a day to repair it ? Any idea ?

Might be an overnight deal, if clearcoat has to be applied and fully dry.

No need to worry. Again, the damage appears to be cosmetic.

Depending on how hard she hit it, you might need an alignment.

Seeing the responses on this thread and the way the car is driving, I guess I will sit it out for a while, though will definitely keep an eye on how the car is behaving.

A solid force like a concrete curb pushing in the opposite direction of where you are steering at speed is far different than hitting a bump in the road.

Look around the next time you are in a parking lot--see how many cars have curb rash. It's a cosmetic issue, nothing else.

Shouldn't take more than a day to complete the repair.

Point taken, if I notice any anomaly, off to the shop it goes fora checkup.

It actually not noticable unless you're close enough to touch the wheel.
I am glad it can be fixed fairly easily, was super bummed yesterday .

, well atleast she won't drive my car in the near future, she is used to her Golf with 65 sidewall tires and those 16" rims hardly scuff if she slams it in a curb.

Yes, I was actually looking today when I went for groceries, never used to notice before.

And it's crazy that some people think it's normal to have at least some curb rash

To that I call BS, I never curbed a wheel once in 41 yrs of driving...

It's easy to say because we're all on a car enthusiast forum. We all love our cars so therefore, we are OCD about it. People who live in urban cities, such as NYC who use their vehicles to get from point A to point B, can care less what their wheels look like.

I'm in San Francisco this weekend and am appalled at the conditions in which some people drive their cars.

This is so true, we sometimes forget how passionate we are about our cars, and to most people, it is weird lol.

My gf knows I love my car , but she still could not understand why I was super sad when the curb rash happened, and I got the inevitable "it's just a car" tagline. Majority of people couldn't care less about such trivial things, which for us are a matter of huge concern.

No, it is my car that I care for.

Yes, it is. An inanimate object that cost a lot of my money and gets me where I need to go every day. It wasn't a literal statement, but rather making a point. I'm not okay with people having a disregard for my property, hence my statement. Apparently neither is the OP as per his statements. She is a girlfriend, not a wife. Does change things as well to me. If she feels that way about her property, that is fine.

My point still stands, but I won't get into a debate on that and throw this thread off the rails. I'll leave it there.

If "it's just a car", then she can pay for the new wheel or repair...

Non-apology apologies piss me off.
