FSC Code is generated separetly using your VIN. It doesn't come with maps.

Hello,

I have downloaded Europe West and copied it to a usb 32FAT formatt.

I extract all the files from the folder root and copy them to the usb.

When I insert it, my car doesn't recognize it as a maps file, but as music file or smth..

Any idea why it might happen? Any step by step tutorial?

Can I ask if these updates risk bricking the drive? I was told a while ago by a leading BMW independent that any updates of this type or coding for CarPlay etc. Leads to bricking the unit when serviced by BMW as the unit has been “corrupted”

I own my F31 for 3 years and have been doing these updates since I got the car.
I have done multiple services and BMW never told me anything.

Any update could potentially brick something if something goes wrong. I’ve done map updates on my car 4 or 5 times so far without any issues except the very first time when I had an incorrect FSC code. If your hard drive is on the way out then updating the maps could tip idrive over the edge?

Does the usb have any other files on it? I have a specific usb drive that I use only for map updates with nothing else on it except for the map update files.

I seem to be having a problem with this.

I have a 64gb USB key formatted as FAT32.

Extracted the contents of the map file to the root of the USB key.

I then plug this into the centre arm rest of my F30....

Nothing happens.

The USB key shows up as external media but nothing at all happens?

This must be something I have done but for the life of me I can't figure out what.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

What is the root folder structure on your USB stick? It should look something like this:

Yes it looks exactly like that. I can’t figure out why it’s not working. The car reads the usb stick as it shows up but it doesn’t automatically start the update

**UPDATE**

I finally sorted this. Successfully updated my maps.

The problem turned out to be that I was using a Mac not Windows. The Mac places hidden files on the USB stick that stops the car from reading it.

I took the USB stick to a windows 10 pc, removed the hidden files from the root and bingo it updated.

What I remain unsure about is wether exFAT formatting will still work or whether it HAS to be FAT32 only.

Hope this helps someone else.
